NBC News: "Chronic pot use may have serious effects on the brain, experts say"...Sessions warned you

I can smell this stuff on the streets constantly since it has been legalized here. They don't hide it anymore, it's like Vancouver now. Literally three times in the last month or so, I smelled it on the streets whereas in the past I wouldn't smell it at all. We live in a fairly mature area of town too.

There was a group of guys in High School and we all knew what they did when they got together. Constantly smoking this stuff and a few of them I believe, graduating to bigger issues. I knew one of the guys older brother but didn't really hang out much with them.

Maybe 10 Years after graduating High School I saw him and his brother and he sounded the same. Same vocabulary, same childish jokes and demeanour, it was like watching a Beevis and Butthead episode. I'm confident the stuff stunted his mental development/growth.

While in university, I recall studying a course on the brain and at that time, the long and short term effects of this stuff was unknown. I'm pretty sure after seeing some people that there are long term implications for addicts. I'm glad I stayed away from this stuff, not even having my first beer until I was 22 or 23, though I did drink socially too much in my 20's.

Yes, indeed, too much of anything is a bad thing. The mind is a terrible thing to waste though.

Human Brains Make Their Own 'Marijuana'

Human Brains Make Their Own 'Marijuana'
Date:
April 20, 2009
Source:
Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology
Summary:
Scientists have discovered that the brain manufactures proteins that act like marijuana at specific receptors in the brain itself. This discovery may lead to new marijuana-like drugs for managing pain, stimulating appetite and preventing marijuana abuse.

"Ideally, this development will lead to drugs that bind to and activate the THC receptor, but are devoid of the side effects that limit the usefulness of marijuana," said Lakshmi A. Devi of the Department of Pharmacology and Systems Therapeutics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and one of the senior researchers involved in the study. "It would be helpful to have a drug that activated or blocked the THC receptor, and our findings raise the possibility that this will lead to effective drugs with fewer side effects."

Scientists made their discovery by first extracting several small proteins, called peptides, from the brains of mice and determining their amino acid sequence. The extracted proteins were then compared with another peptide previously known to bind to, but not activate, the receptor (THC) affected by marijuana. Out of the extracted proteins, several not only bound to the brain's THC receptors, but activated them as well.

As usual with NBC: fake news. I've smoked weed on a regular basis all my life and I still have a more powerful brain than any TDS liberal delirious dullard, mental unfortunate on this board. In fact, I'm currently smoking one of my joints so fat it resembles a tampon. Gotta smoke my extra-absorbent Tampax, whether anyone likes it or not.

Be careful not to light the fuse on that tampon! ;)
