N.J. charges 8 private sector merchants with gouging after Sandy

Really. And how the do you fill a gas tank up with more gas than you need?

The plain fact of the matter is the merchants didn't have to raise prices but they did because they're greedy douchebags.

You wait on line for gas when you have 3/4 of a tank already in your car, or fill up the family's extra car. Or you wait online with 30 gallons of handheld gas containers and fill those up "just in case."

I saw it happening, and 75% of the lines were caused by people flocking to any station with gas, even if they didnt really need it.

75% uh? And you saw it happening how?

And how did you know this 75% didn't really need it?

Because it's always like that. It was like that in the 1970s too. People with Cadillacs would drive around the block to top off. Just in case.

Capitalist pigs at their finest. So much for the private sector giving a shit about the down and out citizens.

New Jersey has filed lawsuits against eight businesses for allegedly gouging customers with exorbitant prices in the days after Superstorm Sandy roared ashore, the state's attorney general said Friday.

Prove it was conservatives.

Do it. Are you going to tell me libs aren't greedy you idiot?

There are rules in place in the south to prevent gouging. Now ket's get a grip on this.

Guys in the North East ripped off their fellow human beings... North East being the key phrase?

From the link:

“We have received no indication that these defendants faced costs that would have made these excessive price increases necessary or justifiable. One gas station even paid less per gallon for a shipment of fuel after the storm than it had paid before the storm,” Chiesa said in a statement.

Only a moron would gladly argue that the merchant was justified in raising prices during a humanitarian crisis simply for pure greed.

Whether they face additional costs is irrelevant. Price limits mean the demand will be greater than the supply. People will buy more than they need just in case. That means others will get nothing. A higher price induces people to purchase less than they would otherwise. That means more product is available to those who need it the most.

All this sanctimonious blather about "price gouging" doesn't help people in the affected area one iota. In fact it harms them.

Really. And how the do you fill a gas tank up with more gas than you need?

Everyone is a "greedy douchbag," you fucking greedy douchbag. Why should anyone be entitled to purchase anything at a price that the owner doesn't want to sell it at? That's the definition of theft. That's all you are: a greedy fucking thug who thinks he's entitled to stuff he isn't willing to pay the market price for.

no, let's excuse price gouging during an emergency

it's the christian thing to do

No, let's make unavailability of needed commodities the rule. Fuck 'em!

No, let's make commodities available only to those who can afford them. Fuck everyone else.

That's how capitalism works, shit head. Of course, capitalism has provide abundance whereas the economic system you favor provides nothing but poverty and mass starvation.

Only the liberal automatically jumps to the conclusion that the solution to every problem is for government to make some law.
That's not the conclusion we've jumped to. Anti-gouging and anti-hoarding laws are a solution to a very specific problem.

In other words, just what I said. You think because a natural disaster causes prices to increase, the government can wave its magic wand and make prices decrease.

The only "problem" such laws solve is the envy and hatred of people who think they are entitled to other people's property. Invariably, they only make the problem worse.

Do you think the laws of economics are suspended during a disaster? If the supply is reduced, then the market price goes up. Laws that prevent merchants from charging the market price cause shortages, and the product quickly disappears from the shelves.

That's economics, and none of your hysterical sanctimonious pontificating about "price gouging" will alter it.

The laws of New Jersey sure weren't suspended, were they?

No. That's why they had people waiting in line every day for hours.

True free markets are always win win trades.

You have a pen I have 5 dollars I want the pen more than the 5$ and vice versa so we trade. If prices are too high then I'd rather my money than your product.

Sure, take them down. Eliminate any incentive for companies to bring energy and goods to the people who need them. Their need isn't that important so let's slow it down.

no, let's excuse price gouging during an emergency

No, let's make unavailability of needed commodities the rule. Fuck 'em!

because there's really only those two options.

:lmao:

Sadly that little vignette is way too complicated for the libs here. The way they look at it, if you have $5 you must have exploited someone to get it or cheated on your taxes. If the other guy has a pen, he obviously dicked over his workers to get it.
It's like there is no free will in Lib-Land. Workers are automatons who take whatever wages are offered, rather than investigate alternatives that might pay better. Customers are automatons who hand over hard earned money just because they are programmed to. They never shop around or make rational decisions.

Kidrocks, of 500,000 merchants in New Jersey, 8 charged with gouging is not a large amount. The panacea for avoiding gouging is to shop elsewhere.

Every human deavor has someone dealing in a dishonest fashion.

If the merchants who "gouged" had to hire 2 or 3 security guards to prevent consumers leaving without paying during an emergency in which it would be hard to apprehend cheaters, they can work something out with the courts as to why their cost accelerated if that is the case.

Not everything in business is what it appears to be on the surface.

Even if a few people were greedy and had no additional costs during the monumental storm, pledging your allegiance to eliminate the private business sector based on less than 1/100th of 1% of those who charged high prices are better dealt with in a court of their peers than by expropriating all private businesses through government fiat.

That's what happened in Russia in 1917. The only thing that changed there were longer lines and different names of the greedy after they murdered 20-to-40,000,000 people least pleasing to the Bolshevik revolutionaries, Lenin, and Stalin.

If you want to take out people YOU consider greedy and redistribute theirs and their family's wealth, you are going to have to murder a lot of American citizens first in order to provide for the people you will unemploy due to having nobody with money willing to back their labor.

Get over it fuckwad. Capitalism has it's place but not during a humanitarian crisis. I hope those businesses are prosecuted and so does Republican governor Chris Christie.

Rly?
Yeah, in a humanitarian crisis we want people totally dependent on gov't, hungry, cold, and with nowhere to go and no ability to get there.
The socialist dream.

It's hard to get over idiocy as profound as yours.

As I have already pointed out, but your skull is too thick for it to penetrate, ignoring the laws of economics doesn't help anyone, "humanitarian crisis" or no. Paying a higher price for gas for a short period is preferable to having no gas. Even someone as dense as yourself should be able to figure that out.

Libturds just can't stand the idea that their sainted all-powerful state just isn't needed.

Libs would rather everyone be poor and desperate than some people make out OK.

You want him to get over poverty and mass starvation by expropriating private businesses and turn them into government take-a-thon corruption redistribution systems that rewards Pelosi relatives and fires 1100 people overnight like solyndra?

Your degree in economics was attained ... where?
