Beethoven's a Dutch name.

And technically he was born in the "Holy Roman Empire", which I believe included what is now Austria, though the city where was born is today in western Germany.

Anyway anybody with an interest in history knows the boundaries of what are today "Germany" and "Austria' have been very different in the past, so what one means my "German" or "Austrian" is a bit of a sticky wicket.

He went to "Austria" later after being born in "Germany" of a "Dutch" father, which still shows in his name (van rather than von, plus the double E). But I put them in quotes because that's where they are within today's political boundaries. But at the time Bonn and Vienna were just two cities of the Holy Roman Empire. So what we mean by "Germany" and "Austria" depends on what time we're talking about.

I agree but I wouldn't know about him. I'm just saying when I did the test it pointed to an area that has nothing whatever to do with my background. It did have some parts right but Serbia was the main one. I don't know if that means the tests are just shots in the dark or if it means Serbia is paying them money to show up.

This person Mortimer is obsessed with race, racial make-up, what eye colour people are etc if I posted half the threads this one has posted certain people would be calling me Frau Mengele.

Take a look at the threads he's posted, go to his profile and then postings and then Threads Started, huge gaps between periods here also, seems he upset a lot of people here more than once with his bizarre threads about race, racial make-up, what eye colour people are etc.

I did one of those DNA analyses once and it pointed me to around Serbia as the main ingredient.
None of my ancestors in any branch in any generation were from anywhere near Serbia.

This person Mortimer is obsessed with race, racial make-up, what eye colour people are etc if I posted half the threads this one has posted certain people would be calling me Frau Mengele.

Take a look at the threads he's posted, go to his profile and then postings and then Threads Started, huge gaps between periods here also, seems he upset a lot of people here more than once with his bizarre threads about race, racial make-up, what eye colour people are etc.

I had to look back to see who "Mortimer" was. He's changed his name. Used to be "Inquiring Mind" IIRC. But yeah I've seen all those threads, under the previous name. Didn't even notice the name change.

I didnt know there are Austrians here, im an Austrian (well of immigrant background not ethnic Austrian though but im citizen), cool who are the other Austrians? The most famous Austrian is the Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger, because i doubt many Americans know Hitler was Austrian i bet they think he was German, when Americans think of Austrians they think of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

... I do admit reading things here made me wonder why Austrians produced such a monster.

History has asked this question over and over again.

Here is the British historian J.M. Roberts' answer from Page 953 of his book "History Of The World", Penguin Books (1976/2002):

"In Germany the communist party before 1933 had been able to get more votes, but it was never able to displace the Social Democrats in control of the working class movement ... . Yet ideological interpretations had great appeal, even to many who were not communists. It (the working class movement) was much strengthened by the accession to power of a new ruler in Germany, Adolf Hitler, whose success makes it very difficult to deny him political genius despite his pursuit of goals which make it difficult to believe him wholly sane."

So in other words, the working class movement, and also Adolf's genius, are what explain Adolf's timely success.

That he came out of Austria is merely a coincidence.

He admired Germany more than his native Austria.

So his took his show on the road and emigrated from Austria into Germany.

I would not hold Austria guilty of anything because of that.

Austria has produced many geniuses and Adolf according to Roberts was simply one of them.
