More record heat....

The maximum temperature record for the DFW airport (of course, the site was located in Fort Worth then), is 107 degrees which has held since 1917. Even the brutal summer of 1980 didn’t break that one

Today, however, it will be close. High temperatures over north Texas will range from 103 to 108 degrees. The heat index values will fluctuate with surface dewpoints expected to gradually drop during the afternoon, but they may top 110 during today.

Record heat: Close call in DFW forecast

We have seen just a small taste of things to come in the past 24 hours, as a small number of record temperatures were broken around the country. In El Paso, a record high minimum temperature of 80 degrees was set on Wednesday, eclipsing the old 'warm' low of 70 set in 1934. In Roswell, New Mexico, a record high was tied when the mercury shot up to 103 on Wednesday, the same as occurred in 1964. And in Grand Forks, North Dakota, a record low maximum was tied at 67, dating from 1962 as well.

Ahhh, now don't be so hard on Chris.

He is trying to act smart and all.

It's kinda cute...

Although temperatures were expected to see a drop this week, the good news will be short lived with temperatures reaching 115 by this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

This increase in temperatures for the weekend is expected to bring another excessive heat warning to the Valley, said weather service meteorologist Paul Iniguez.

Temperatures should drop to 110 for Wednesday, but Thursday is expected to be 113 degrees, leading into another blistering weekend of heat, Iniguez said.
Friday and Saturday are predicted to be 115 degrees, similar to July 12, which matched the record for that day set in 2005.

Back to about 115 degrees by weekend

You haven't seen shit, dickweed.

I travel rather extensively from the Mississippi westward, and the general ...dare I say..."consensus" is that the weather is unseasonably cool.

so you're saying I shouldn't pick on an invalid?

The National Weather Service reports that the average temperature so far this month -- that's the 24-hour average, figuring in highs and lows -- was 97.8 degrees. That's the fifth-hottest first two weeks of July on record at Sky Harbor International Airport.

But here's what's cool ... or not to much: From July 8 to 14, the 24-hour average was 100.2 degrees. That makes it the hottest second week of July on record.

Still early in the summer, Austin temperatures have already reached triple digits on more than 20 days. While this is far from a record, the summer has barely started. As of July 6, Austin had set 10 record highs in less than two weeks.

It was unbearably hot in Little Rock a couple weeks ago, but only when I was driving. Of course, my air conditioner had a leak and all the freon leaked out which explains why it was so hot. I got it fixed and now everything is cool.

One whole week convinces me.......NOT!!!

But hey....From a neo-Luddite who takes a mere 100 years out of the context of hundreds of millions, nothing surprises me.

CHICAGO — The nightmare global warming scenario which provided the plot for a Hollywood blockbuster -- the Atlantic Ocean current that keeps Europe warm shuts down and triggers rapid climate change -- has long worried scientists.

But a study published Thursday in the journal Science found it may not occur as quickly as previously feared.

There is evidence that this current has shut down with some regularity in the past -- and sometimes quite rapidly -- in response to large influxes of fresh water from melting glaciers.

when the glaciers which blanketed most of North America began to melt...

Massive amounts of water poured into the North Atlantic and lowered the ocean's salt levels, which are key to powering the convection current that carries warm tropical surface water north and cooler, heavier subsurface water south.

The fresh water stopped the current, cooling the North Atlantic region and causing heat to build up in southern waters.

AFP: Ocean current switch due to warming could be slower than feared

There are 365 days in the year.
Temperature records are broken in every single region every single years. It signifies nada.
