Michelle was right!

Ah, black market calories at our schools.

""I know a lot of my friends who are just drinking a jug of milk for their lunch. And they are not getting a proper meal," middle school student Samantha Gortmaker told Keloland.com.

Despite the fact that the new regulations have increased the cost of a lunch 20 to 25 cents per plate, it’s not pleasing students.

Some are throwing away their vegetables while others are adapting to the rules by becoming industrious. In New Bedford, Massachusetts, students have created a black market - for chocolate syrup. The kiddie capitalists are smuggling in bottles of it and selling it by the squeeze, according to SouthCoastToday.com. "

Complaints Mount Against Michelle Obama
When I was growing up, I always threw out everything that "tasted funny". They cooked all their vegetables in vinegar. Eeew! So just about everything they cooked was, too. I just couldn't eat that stuff. I think I ate a lot of apples, though.

it used to be against the rules to change someone's quote, asshat.

You did, thank you. And yea, some are.

Well given it is 70 percent of the student body refusing to eat the lunch in that one school alone, 'some' may not cover it.

Well... How many school districts/schools have switched to healthy lunches?

Also, I said I would be perfectly ok with lunches being a school district issue.

Although ... No one has really addressed the OP. Which was a panel of generals stating Americas kids are too fat, and it's effecting our armed forces and national security.

that's because they have to attend to the raging hardons they have for obama and his wife.

multitasking is hard when you're stuck on stupid, i guess.

between the huge amounts of homework and all the electronic distractions, i think it's a lack of exercise as much as poor diet that has caused our kids to more and more closely resemble goodyear blimps.

IDK the article did not say. As far as addressing the OP, you equated such with school lunch.

I brought up school lunches because it is part of what the panel of generals are calling for.

No, they aren't all fat. The kids who are eating it says it's unpalatable, and the little kids are refusing to eat it and so are still hungry.

Of course anything good for the child is going to be unpalatable if they are fed high sugar high fat foods at home. These kids need to learn to eat healthy foods. Beyond that though, these kids need to get more exercise. I think the lack of exercise is a much bigger factor when it comes to childhood obesity. Just addressing diet issues without addressing the problem with lack of exercise is only looking at one part of the problem.

An example of what was ACTUALLY served at a Massachusetts school today (may have been yesterday) is: Brussels sprouts in mayonnaise. EWWWWWWWWWW! A local radio show was discussing this...short version: it's getting thrown away. Also, there's a problem that nobody saw: the alleged "lunch" is utterly inadequate for any student that plays sports! I played HS sports, and even if I DID eat a full lunch, I was RAVENOUS by the time I got home from a game!

If your child needs more food than other students because they are very active, pack them a lunch.

Well, since everyone seems far more interested in talking school lunches, might as well get an idea of what we're talking about.

No wonder the kids are a bit upset.

1 ounce of turkey is barely a full thin slice and a half ounce of cheese on a sandwich? What is that, a half slice of cheese? A half sandwich with nothing in it? A quarter cup of Jicama? Heck I would not want to eat a quarter cup of Jicama either. I do not like it and it is an acquired taste, it would be like eating 10 radishes.

I just read that article:

I heard that they served Brussels sprout salad at one of the schools and it was absolutely disgusting – it was sprouts and mayo – a total

waste of money is what one teacher told me,” said Karen Quarantiello. “I mean, what kid is going to eat that?”

America's kids ARE too fat.

It starts at home. Exercise. Kids today don't burn off the calories. everyone worries about the food... but what has really changed for the worse, is lifestyle. That has way more effect than diet....

sorry if that hurts the feelings of the food nazis....
