Michelle Obama does her part to help unemployment

You're about to say she's black.

If we're running at a deficit....if we're borrowing money from China and Japan to pay for our debt then we're broke. It's just a matter of time till it catches up to us.

What happens when they stop lending us money? Well...they already have. Now they're monitizing the debt by printing money. $600 billion announced this month. Here comes inflation.

They have to raise the debt limit to $15 trillion soon.

The only way out of it is to cut spending and raise taxes.

The US is the wealthiest nation on earth. We have the largest economy (GDP) by a factor of three

Being in debt, does not mean you are broke. I have over $100,000 in personal debt, so do many homeowning Americans....it does not mean we are broke

How much money do you owe compared to how much you have on hand?

If you owe more then you have then you're in debt.

If you are in debt and you can't borrow anymore from other countries guess how much you're worth?

We are also the only country in the world that allows foreigners to buy our land. So who really owns the United States?

The net worth of my home exceeds the amount of debt

Just like the net worth of the US and its assets exceed its debt

The US Government already owns almost 30% of the land in the country. Quite an asset

yeah but they we're going to change washington, they bloated the current payroll. What a fucking shell game Obama played on the American voter.

Thank goodness the Tea Baggers are going to fix everything

Yup.

They voted a shitload of Dems out of office.

It's gonna take time to reverse the direct this country was going. The same direction our allies felt was a recipe for disaster. Also it's gonna take time to find out where all of that cash went...pay down the debt....flush out all of the corruption in Washington.

1. Do you have a link showing we are broke?

2. People have known the First Lady has staff supporting her role for over 100 years

3. She is not royalty, she is the First Lady and has formal responsibilities in representing her country. First Ladies are not paid but put in a lot of hours in fulfilling their official roles.

First Ladies have been around for hundreds of years, why are you finally waking up to the fact that they have official responsibilities?

Wait.....I think I know why Michelle Obama is different

You're about to say she's black.

We know your analogy skills are "broke".

I skipped through the thread pretty fast, so if somebody already posted this, I apologize.

I'll have to stick up for Michelle on this one. She is just emulating what her immediate predecessors have had in the way of staff and therefore is no better, no worse than any others in that regard.

The question is, why do we tolerate this for anybody? No way in hell can I believe all those positions are necessary.

The salaries for staffers in the Office of Michelle Obama are also on the newest list.

How much of the United States do we own? If the government is in debt then the land they own is being paid for with borrowed money It's also worth less if they refuse to put it to any good use. All of our natural resources remain locked up and untapped and undeveloped. As long as the government owns it...it's a wasted asset.

The government never makes money....it only spends it. That is the problem with government owning land when the government is so deeply in debt to other countries.

Nice try....but you need to apply logic and not just facts.

If a company's primary asset is a large block of wood....and that wood has value...ajnd the only way if they can realize their value is selling that block of wood....then once they sell that block of wood, they no longer own the asset of the company...and, in essence, they no longer own the company.

So you are saying we are not broke becuase we could always sell off our land?

So exactly what do we have at that point?

The US Government (American people) owns most of the land west of the Mississippi. It is bought and paid for for hundreds of years now. In addition, we own one nasty military with trillions in assets, Govt Buildings, Highways, dams, bridges

Most of the land we own was bought very cheaply....looks like we made quite a bit of money from those Louisianna and Alaska purchases

My point is that the reason the US has so much debt is because we are lazy and do not want to tell our people they will have to sacrifice. It is easier to get elected when you borrow money than when you cut programs or raise taxes

Any talk of the US being "broke" is laughable. If you only look at debt without considering assets and earning power you are missing the big picture

Russia thought the same thing and they sold us Alaska when they were broke for next to nothing. The problem is you have to have someone willing to pay what you ask for the property. What if nobody will pay you enough to pay off your debt?

And where are we gonna live once our land is sold off?

I keep seeing the left trying to excuse all of the spending any way the can but it just doesn't fly.

But unsellable assets are useless.
And selling bartering our land with foreign entities is not an option in the best interest of America.

While these jerks spend and spend we have to sacrifice so they can have everything they ever dreamed of?

No...YOU must sacrifice. I suggest you just pay more then you owe when you fill out your taxes. Leave mine alone.

Btw.....how much is our value with a shrinking dollar?

The reason the USA has so much debt is because we have a government that uses the people's money to enhance its own power, prestige, influence, and personal fortunes. And it spends unwisely and excessively to accomplish that and ensure that it is kept in power.

If we would just limit how much government will have to spend, and demand it not spend more than it has to spend, all that goes away.

Yes America....it is you who must sacrifice

Can you live with a Military of smaller scope?
Can you wait longer to retire?
Pay more for your kids college?
Pay a bigger slice of your medical bills?

So you are actually displaying a flaw in your theory.
They are not sellable...so they have no value...regardless of the value of the materials used to make the SoL or the value of the Grand Canyon as real estate.
So to apply oit as an asset against the debt is rediculous....

Hello?

That is exactly what I am willing to do...and to be frank...what I already do. I am a 95%er.......I get no entitlements whatsoever....and if eliminating the debt means my healthcare goes up, so be it...

I am not the one creating the debt. It is the people who wish to have their entitlements that is creating the debt.

As for the military? Lets be rational here....with our way of life that is envied by so many...and our large piece of land...and our multiple borders....and our pacts and treaties....we need a large military.

Anyhow, it is a Constitutional function of the Federal government to provide the common defense. It is not a function of the Federal government to provide food, clothing, shelter, jobs, healthcare, computers, internet service, transportation, or an education for anybody.
