Michelle Claims Fat Kids Are A National Security Threat

It's not the governments job to teach kids or parents anything.
a lot of blame should go to the food industry.....look at the foods they promote for little kids.....Sugar up the ying yang....loaded with fat.....obesity and diabetes are up dramatically....which in turn brings on other health problems.....especially when older.....little kids like sweet things.....if Mom and Dad wont regulate their kids, who dont know better....who should?....there is nothing wrong with the Govt promoting good health to its citizens with public service messages......they did it with drugs and Forrest fires.....no one was bitching then....if the first lady wants to get out there and promote good health....good for her......Bush's wife did it with illiteracy....Nancy Reagan said just say no.....they all seemed to have their little projects.....im for ANYTHING that in the long run is good for this Nation....people staying healthy,Diabetes being beat back......good for everyone=good for the Country....

Amen Harry!

I wonder why posters on here feel the need to attack Mrs. Obama, when she is wanting to help fix the obesity problem in children. I applud her, just like I appluded Laura Bush and her fight against illiteracy.

Learning good habits while you are young will go into adulthood.

Poor Republicans..

Kinda like people saying Mrs. Obama is a fat ass?

Obesity has no political sides, just go to a Mall or a Walmart to see how big Americans are!

There is a difference between encouraging exercising, and being critical of how parents raise their children.

Lets face it, a growing number of parents warrant criticism. And the social and economic costs obesity are going to be huge. Seriously, one would think that "kids, eat healthy and exercise daily" would be as universally accepted as it gets.

No, hes not "always just been a big boy" or big boned or whatever. Its boarding abuse and neglect. Type 2 Diabetes before a kid turns 10 is fucking absurd.

Michelle is losing her mind.

Now she's saying that because only 1 in 4 kids in the US can qualify for the military this has become a threat to National Security.

“Military leaders … tell us that when more than one in four young people are unqualified for military service because of their weight,” the first lady says in the prepared remarks, “childhood obesity isn’t just a public health threat, it’s not just an economic threat, it’s a national security threat as well."

Now I've heard everything.

Call it one of those unintended consequences of the Nanny State.

Kids aren't allowed to run around and play like they did when I was growing up so now we've got kids that are getting by on Monster drinks just to keep from being bored to death.

After sitting around the house for hours on end in the summer kids get fat. Many parents won't allow them out on their own. School buses have to drop kids off mere feet from their doorstep. It's all just a side-effect of the Nanny State this country has immersed itself in.

I've felt for quite some time that all of this coddling that goes on is only going to make kids unable to cope with life but military life is out of the question folks. Our pampered kids won't be able to handle the culture-shock they will experience. It doesn't matter if they're out of shape or not.

I guess recess like we had when I was going to school where we went out played favourites like kickball, dodgeball, Baseball, or the ever popular football game 'smear the queer' for an hour or so are bygone, eh?

Too bad.

Smear the Queer or a game that looked like 40 kids fucking a round, red ball is gone sorry to say. I don't think it was ever sanctioned by the school anyway. We just loved playing it.

I always wondered about the dumb-ass that caught that ball. They always think they can get away. lol

Good slogan Bill. But it doesn't cost $5 billion. Here's an interesting take on what this is really about:

What's in it for Big Labor? SEIU Executive Vice President Mitch Ackerman explains: "A more robust expansion of school lunch, breakfast, summer feeding, child care and WIC (the federal Women, Infants and Children nutrition program) is critical to reducing hunger, ending childhood obesity and providing fair wages and healthcare for front line food service workers(emphasis added)."

There are 400,000 workers who prepare and serve lunch to American schoolchildren. SEIU represents tens of thousands of those workers and is trying to unionize many more. "More robust expansion" of the federal school-lunch law means a mandate for higher wages, increased benefits and government-guaranteed health insurance coverage (the more luxurious the better now that SEIU has negotiated its Cadillac Tax exemption from the Democrats' health care takeover bill).

The SEIU's front group, "Campaign for Quality Services," is clamoring for "the right to sick days and training" for school food-services workers. Never ones to let a crisis go unexploited.

Translation: Perpetual employment for big government and its public employee union au pairs.

Cede the children, feed the state..

Great for you all. And I'm sure a local decison? And that's after all where it belongs.
Yes, a district decision.

But, in my daughter's district they have the same thing. She has gym this semester, and she's in 10th grade. It's required at her High School. I'm glad.

I hope she enjoys it. Getting out, competing...physically is a great diversion for those kids. I am glad for her. I hope you encourage it.

I'd settle for letting them run around and scream their heads off.

Seriously, has anyone seen the numbers of people who would be unfit to serve in the military?

Most Philadelphians Unfit for Duty: Report | NBC Philadelphia

A nonprofit group says that up to 90 percent of young Philadelphians are ineligible for military service because of criminal records, obesity or lack of education.

Pennsylvania-based Mission: Readiness released its report Monday. It says 1 million Pennsylvanians are ineligible for the same reasons.

Mission: Readiness is made up of more than 150 retired generals and admirals. The group wants state and federal funding for pre-kindergarten programs that it says give children a solid foundation for academic and personal success.

Evil socialist generals!

I've noticed that a lot of them are overweight. I believe it's because many of them don't do anything when they're deployed. Last time I was deployed I made myself workout twice a day. I had to do something to fight the depression of a long deployment. It worked.

Yes folks, you've seen it here....

Expressing the concern about overweight American children is now a BAD thing.

Sloth and obesity is now a Conservative virtue?

Gosh.

It is! It is! Just look at all the OUTRAGE on this thread that the First Lady would have the NERVE to say something is bad about the Waddlers.

Another case of hyperbole.

You're also guilty of essentially putting words in people's mouths to win an argument.

I'm criticizing Michelle's hyperbole and you defend her with another.

This is a power and control grab. She knows nothing can be done by the government that will make kids lose weight. Just another way to spend a few billion dollars....:cuckoo:

You mean like Nancy Reagan's "Just say no" campaign?

Beat me to it.

Nancy wasn't lecturing us and providing us with bad examples.

Wonder if you can tell the difference.

For Thanksgiving Michelle sat on her fat-ass and said we could go ahead and eat turkey and stuffing...but we had to knuckle down later. She's gonna tell us we can't eat what we want and her husband's unconstitutional health care bill will attempt to enforce her beliefs. Warnings will be posted on packaging and certain products will be removed from the shelves.

They already did this with cigarettes. They removed my clove cigs from the shelves but Obama's Kools stayed. May he rot in hell for that one.

The solution will be to provide more nutritional food alternatives and not focus so much on garbage. What sells seems to be crap that's loaded with sodium and sugar but this is only because their's little else to buy. They get us hooked on the poison and jack up the price of the good stuff. It seems good food has less additives and should be cheaper, not more expensive.

Americans are a fat race of junk food eatin, couch potato sittin' lardasses, no doubt about it.

The "nanny state" has nothing to do with it.

People just eat too damned much and exercise too damned little.

She doesn't know what she's talking about and nothing she's doing is going to change anything. But what she and her husband are doing is infringing on our freedoms. They can't help themselves. She acts like her education and her position as First Lady makes her an expert on everything.

If you want to show us how to do it, get someone who's done it as a spokesperson. With my background I know a heck of a lot more about taking care of myself then they do....and I can see right through their BS.

Btw.....I would never volunteer for the job because at my age I don't believe I provide a good enough example. You have to be in super shape to be able to stand up there and lecture people.

when Arnold was trying to promote physical fitness out here he was criticised by some for doing so....and i think he knows what he is talking about.....as long as the Govt does not mandate, there is no reason they cant do public service announcements to let all these clueless parents know that childhood Obesity and Diabetes ARE RISING PRETTY DAM FAST......but i do think that the breakfast cereal companies should be told in a nice way.....to cut down the amount of sugar they put in a box....

When I was watching 'Supersize Me', they had a school for 'troubled' kids and completely changed the food being served. Everything was prepared there, fresh fruits and veggies, no meat, no junk. Morgan Spurlock (the guy who ate McD's for 30 days) said that it cost just about the same serving this food vs. all the crap. Hmmmm, I wonder, wonder, wonder why schools keep serving crap then. :eusa_whistle:

How is identifying a national health issue and offering advice on proper eating habits "infringing on your freedom"?

Do you even understand what freedom is?

 Well, it is...and I hardly think the government deciding what to serve at a government institution is unusual in the least.
