In Memorial of 47
Maybe they won't change their belief but you know what......maybe they'll just shut up about it.
When I was in the third and fourth grades at McKensie(sic) and Milan, TN the teachers began our days with the pledge of allegiance and the lord's prayer. They assigned a bible verse to each of us on Mondays to memori e and recite back to the class on Fridays. We've already come a long way toward living up to the constitution and leaving that unadulterated crap out of our schools. I will never live to see it but maybe my grandchildren will live to see Thomas Jefferson and others among our forebears wishes come to pass:
"The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the Supreme Being as his father, in the womb of a virgin, will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter."
~Thomas Jefferson~ letter to John Adams, April 11, 1823
When a past president of America felt comfortable saying this to a sitting president one can quickly reali e how close to theocrasy this nation found itself a short 60 years ago when the bible thumping right added "Under God" to our pledge and wrote into law the printing of "In God We Trust" on our currency while at the same time public schools were teaching young students the bible. At least I've had the privilege to witness that much change. Try teaching that Jesus bullshit in public schools today. The ACLU and hundreds of thousands of parents would be all over the schools as soon as they heard about it.
Check the Religion forum and tell me how many threads are started by Christians demeaning atheists/agnostics, then tell me who should shut up.
