I am taking Mini EZ to one today. She has to visit a place of religion different from her own for her Religious Studies Class.

We were going to go to the Buddhist Temple in Bloomington, but it's over an hour drive and we just don't have the time today. So she said she wanted to go to a Mosque. There is one a few miles from our house.

Just wondered if anyone else has gone to one to visit.

I went once with a buddy of mine, Ali.
The head dude gave me a Koran.
He had a huge beard but wore no diaper on his head ?

I tried to back in the 1990's but was refused by a few of their members because I was an Infidel. No shit, there I was for a course on comparative religions.

The ones who were the angriest about it? Pakistanis, while a Bangladeshi man was going to bring me with him. They were nearly violent with their anger about my possible presence.

So I went to a Jewish Temple instead.

So count yourself lucky they even let you in to observe.

Hmmm, I will let you know what happens. I would hope they let a woman and her 16 year old daughter observe their Mosque. My daughter loves learning about all the different religions in this class. I'm so happy they offer it in her public school, it's one of her favorite classes!

A firm I worked for built one. I visited many times but not for an actual ceremony.

With my experience with muslim-centric schools, you'll be lucky to be treated civilly by the men if there are many immigrants there. The Somalis I dealt with were HORRIBLE towards women... I mean REALLY bad. If they were just cold that was a good day.

So please be ready for that, because in that group's eyes, you are a second class citizen, and if you have an escort to go with you like your husband, please consider bringing him with you.

We have visitors to our Mosque just about every day.

They are warmly welcomed and are encouraged to ask any questions they want.

For larger groups such as schools and civic organizations.

We arrange for one of our members to host a group tour. :eusa_angel:

Just a heads up, I think the rule of thumb is that you can't go into a Mosque unless you are a Muslim.

At least, that's how it was in Afghanistan. Not sure if it would be the same here.

I've been in the Al Aqsa mosque. Make sure your arms are covered and bring a scarf to cover your heads... And no short skirts.
