Main Entry: sem·per fi·de·lis
Pronunciation: \ˌsem-pər-fə-ˈdā-ləs\
Function: foreign term
Etymology: Latin
: always faithful —motto of the United States Marine Corps
It seems for a man that likes to run around congress waving around his status to everyone, would not forget the definition that even a raw recruit would know. I had the high priviledge of serving with many Marine Officers and Enlisted people. The one thing that almost all of them had in common was a deep sense of honor and duty to one another. It is clear that Mr. Murtha has forgotten this and the only thing he has remembered as a former Marine is the fact he was one and what it will do for him at the expense of his fellow Marines. In that regard he is a coward and undeserving of the title United States Marine. Further, I call him no better than a deserter in the face of the enemy, a man that would desert his fellow Marines in combat and lend aid and comfort to the enemy. Here is a man that his only defense he has offered for this is the fact his congressional status makes him exempt from prosecution. The fact is, in the the very least he has defamed his brother Marines and the service in general and is a disgrace to all who would call themselves Marines, or Vets of any branch of the US Military .
DEFAMATION - An act of communication that causes someone to be shamed, ridiculed, held in contempt, lowered in the estimation of the community, or to lose employment status or earnings or otherwise suffer a damaged reputation. Such defamation is couched in 'defamatory language'. Libel and slander are defamation.
The bottom line here is this, the lance corporal received an honorable discharge from the US Marines. and as such Mr. Murtha is liable for his comments while the Marine was deployed in Iraq and afterwards. He is completely exonerated of any charges in the matter. It is my hope that Mr. Murtha at the very least issues an apology to this young Marine and ALL his buddies he defamed and at the most resigns his office in disgrace.
Exonerated - To relieve, in a moral sense, as of a charge, obligation,
or load of blame resting on one; to clear of something
that lies upon oppresses one, as an accusation or
imputation; as, to exonerate one's self from blame, or
from the charge of avarice. --Burke.
