This story reminds me of the Emmett Till murder except this time it was a Mexican victim viciously dispatched by two white teenagers. At the root of this homicide, ostensibly, was jealousy. Perhaps it was just coincidence that the victim was a Mexican dating a white girl; one who had the victim and killers competing for her attention.

Wylie teens sentenced to 30 years for murder Dallas Morning News

Two Wylie teens convicted of killing a classmate last year in a dispute over a girl were sentenced Friday to 30 years in prison.

District Judge Mark Rusch made his ruling after weighing the brutal, premeditated attack against the offenders’ young ages and their lack of criminal history. He cited their betrayal of a friend and their betrayal of everything their parents taught them when they committed this horrific crime.

Compared to Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, or Freddie Grey, the records of these two "innocent lambs" made them look like choir boys. Yet none of the black "thugs," as many here believed they were, committed anything near as reprehensible as these two young white boys did. The lynching of Ivan Mejia, yes that is what it was, exposes the underlying racial animus that lurks just beneath the surface in every white community in Texas and beyond.

The news articles do not mention it but we know the source of the hate that drove two young white males to kill a "Mexican race mixer." It does not take a genius to know that the environment in which these young white boys were raised was most likely conducive to nurturing the attitude that could propel them to commit such a horrific crime.

The judge had the leeway of sentencing the boys anywhere between five and 99 years in prison. That lenient 30 year sentence is well noted and must be weighed in comparing similar cases where in the defendant is black or Hispanic and has murdered a white person. For the record, I doubt any research of such a comparison would produce an equal outcome.

Looks can be deceiving. The hate behind those eyes proved to be deadly. This was not a crime of passion or one of desperation born out of poverty or happenstance. This one was premeditated and planned with precision; simply because Ivan chose to love a White girl that one of the killers wanted. In Texas, that can still be deadly if you aren't a white male.

Feral monkeys attempting to asset their dominance.

The manner in which the two assailants dispatched their victim was especially egregious.

The boys were both 16 when they lured classmate Ivan Mejia to meet them using a bogus text message. When Mejia showed up, Staup grabbed him from behind in a chokehold. Then Bridges took over the attack. Together, they strangled Mejia to death.

According to the report they stuffed a rag down his throat and held his nose shut.

The teens then put Mejia’s body in the trunk of a car and drove to a wooded area in Garland, where they had dug his grave the night before.

The dumbasses got caught in the act by uniformed police officers in a squad car at the scene of the dig and confessed.
I'd certainly like to see their SAT scores as well as their IQ test scores. Ivan, the victim, looked like a pretty bright kid
whose life ended so tragically because of these two scumbags.
