A total lunar eclipse will be visible in areas such as Europe, Africa, southern Asia and Australia on June 15, 2011. This will be one of the darkest eclipses ever, and for 100 minutes the Moon will appear as a dark red orb in the sky.

Can I see the Eclipse?

The June 15 total lunar eclipse will be visible to observers in Europe, Africa, southern Asia, and Australia. This will be one of the darkest eclipses ever, second only to the total lunar eclipse on July 16, 2000. During the totality of the eclipse, the moon will pass through the center of the earth’s shadow.

The best location to view the eclipse will be in the northernmost region of the “entire-eclipse zone” in central Asia, as well as Eastern Europe and northeastern Africa.

---

When will the Eclipse Occur?

The eclipse’s total phase lasts for 100 minutes.

The penumbral eclipse (“P1”) begins at 17:24:37 Universal Time (UT) and the partial eclipse (“U1”) begins at 18:22:57 UT.

The total eclipse (“U2”) begins at 19:22:29 UT and the point of the greatest eclipse occurs at 20:13:43 UT.

The umbral eclipse magnitude will reach 1.71 at the instant of greatest eclipse, making it one of the darkest eclipses in history.

The total eclipse (“U3”) ends at 21:02:42, followed by the end of the partial eclipse (“U4”) at 22:02:14 UT. The penumbral eclipse (“P4”) ends at 23:00:41 UT.

I'll have to wake up a little early, but I plan on sitting outside for a bit to watch this.

What about all of you? Minus those on the Western Hemisphere.

Total lunar eclipse coming this weekend...
Last full lunar eclipse for 3 years this weekend
December 9, 2011 - - The last total lunar eclipse of the year is Saturday. And there won't be another one for three years.
Viewers in the western half of the United States will have the best views Saturday well before dawn. The farther west the better.

The scene from the Pacific — Australia and parts of Asia — will be prime. The action will be unfolding there Saturday night, local time.

This is the second total lunar eclipse this year, when the entire moon is in Earth's darkest shadow and will appear red. The first was in June. That's it now until 2014. Until then, stargazers will have to settle for partial eclipses.

Skywatchers Looking Forward to Complete Lunar Eclipse
July 27, 2018 — Skywatchers around much of the world are looking forward to a complete lunar eclipse that will be the longest this century.

The so-called "blood moon" Friday, when it turns a deep red, will be visible at different times in Australia, Africa, Asia, Europe and South America when the sun, Earth and moon line up perfectly, casting Earth's shadow on the moon.

The total eclipse will last 1 hour and 43 minutes, with the entire event lasting closer to four hours.

In a special treat, Mars is in opposition on Friday — meaning the planet and the sun will be on exact opposite sides of the Earth and will shine its best. Mars is also at its closest approach to Earth this week since 2003, making it appear bigger and brighter.
