Loughner Spared

Jared Loughner pleads guilty to killing six and wounding 13,
including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, in a 2011 shooting rampage
in Tucson, Ariz., as part of a deal that will allow him
to avoid the death penalty..............

What a Disgrace.................This pos should be executed ASAP

Maybe.. But since he won't face the death penalty this should be a good opportunity to study him thoroughly and come to some conclusions on what motivated him or even egged him on to do what he did. This should help law enforcement home in on people like him before they arm themselves and act on thier hallucinations.

You know................I'm not excusing anything that Laughtner did, nor am I in any way saying that he's even human.

But............................with all that being said................................

At least he took responsibility for his actions, plead guilty, and now is taking his punishment.

At least he had the decency to do ONE good thing for the people he terrified, injured and killed, because if it would have gone into a long drawn out court fight (a la Casey Anthony), it would have made it that much harder for those who were affected to be able to get on with their lives.

At least he spared them that much.

None of that happened! When Loughner was told that Giffords had survived he said he felt like a failure.

What happened was Loughner was pumped full of psychotropic drugs and in a stupefied condition where he merely had to repeat what was told to him, plead guilty. The Judge accepted that. As bad as the alternative is with a drawn out trial, this is even worse. Pump anyone full of enough drugs and they'll say anything. They don't know what they're saying.

The taxpayers were spared, but the law has been debauched.

I'm sure if you pay someone enough he can be assacinated inside his prison. It happens all the time. You should look into it. Cuz you are so all about the law and everything.

Whether Loughner is assassinated inside prison, the way Jeffrey Dahmer was, doesn't matter. The Judge accepted a plea of someone who was jacked up on psychotropic drugs. This is like something right out of the old Soviet Union where people were drugged up until they plead guilty.

If he was so crazy that he needed those drugs to calm his mind down enough to make a somewhat rational confession to his charges then maybe THAT is the best outcome. Consider the alternative that if he is psycologically deminished he could have just been committed to an institution and released sometime down the road if he recieved treatment for his condition and became "rehabilitated or cured".

He wouldn't be released, he would then be sane enough to stand trial and enter a plea. Hinckley has never been rehabilitated enough to stand trial for Reagan. Nor has he ever entered a plea.

When someone is pumped up with psychotropic drugs they can't make a rational decision about anything. They are entirely under the control and suggestion of someone else. This is going to have untold consequences. I can hardly wait until a defense to date rape is that a woman made a rational decision and gave consent under the influence of GHB.

Understand, Loughner doesn't voluntarily take these drugs. They are forced. He's too insane to be able to decide whether he can accept or reject taking the drugs in the first place!

Take a life, forfeit yours.

Very simple......

The victims and their families seem okay with the compromise. I think they were the ones spared the most. Loughner will not have a natural lifespan.

Far from simple.

Wait . . . the answer is far from simple. No one suggested the victims were at fault here. That is a useful tool comment.

i'm not sure how.

The man is going to spend the rest of his life in prison.

Even with Jan Brewer being the queen of executions, they do a whole 4 of them a year.

The law has been debauched because the plea was taken while the man was jacked up on psychotropic drugs that were forcefully given to him. You might like the result! Shortcut to justice, saves the taxpayers lots of money, he's going to be locked up for the rest of his life. Goody!

If his plea can be taken while he's comatose on drugs that were forced, then anyone can be persuaded to plead guilty to any crime simply by holding them down and doping them up.

We'll be lucky if this abortion of the law isn't attacked a few years down the line and Loughner just walks. All we need is for some Supreme Court someplace to say that a plea taken while the defendant is rendered without free will by drugs that were forced is void. That's all.

We live in a society where we shun mental illness and rarely do we talk about it. We do little to break down the associated stigma. Most of us have been affected by it one way or the other as many more people suffer from mental illness than most people realize. Loughner is of course the drastic result of our reluctance to deal with the illness. He is a diagnosed schizophrenic.

The psychotropic drugs mentioned here are really called anti-psychotic drugs. Loughner was probably in deep psychosis when he attacked and killed those people. The drugs he is on help to bring him back to “consensus reality”. He is probably understands what is going on now better than during his psychotic period.

Those who have watched loved ones deteriorate due to a mental illness are just saddened by the events when they unfold.

He was probably more lucid on those drugs than he was without them...

Again, if you started taking yours like the doctors keep asking you to, you might not come off as such a twit here.

You think anyone is going to actually do that?

Do you think anyone is actually going to appeal this plea?
