Krugman and Keynes "In the long run we are all dead."

Paul Krugman, Nobel Prize-winning economist has a book out "End This Depression Now" and it is an interesting read. Krugman says long term unemployment is caused by macroeconomic events (Krugman's field of expertise) and policy failures. He lays out a case for how things are and how we can get out of the mess we are in. But ideologues on the right hate him so much it is difficult to talk common sense with civility and purpose. without ending up defending Krugman against all sorts of personal attacks and bs.

Economists know the price of everything and the value of nothing.Krugman wrote "economists study the circulation of money, and the production and consumption of stuff"

On focusing on the long run and not the short run regarding unemployment and the economy.

"This long run is a misleading guide to current affairs. In the long run we are all dead." - John Maynard Keynes

These austerity people need to be thrown under the next bus.

too stupid and 1000% liberal!! Can you state a specific good idea krugman has, and explain why it is a good idea?? IF you cant you are just pretending to yourself you understood Krugman's book. Sorry to rock your world.

Krugman is the funniest thing in the newspaper since Larson's "The Far Side"

He's a joke and a moron and he's wrong in the trillions column and not just once and not just short-term either

Keynes was a homosexual bachelor who had no children. It's not surprising he didn't give a damn about the long wrong. Why would he care about crapping on his children and grand children?

One big problem with the Keynesian abracadabra is that we all outlive the short run. Then we have to live with the consequences of spending like there's no tomorrow.

Are you an economist, or do you have any background whatsoever in economic theory and practice?

I thought not.

It's ironic that you would complain about people personally attacking Paul Krugman when that is essentially all Krugman ever does when somebody disagrees with him, also after you say people who believe differently should be thrown under the bus.

Regardless, as you've given us nothing to actually discuss regarding the book, aside from a quote from Keynes, I'm not sure the purpose of this thread other than to simply invite people of opposing opinions to snipe at each other.

you are right, Dante is a perfect fraud liberal who lacks the IQ for substance. Ask him how tax and spend (the heart and soul of liberal economics works) and he'll run away as fast as he can as if to shout from the hills that liberalism makes no sense except as a welfare program!

you are one of the most uniformed imbeciles to ever grace the usmb boards, and that is saying lots

ask Ed the difference between demand side tax cuts (JFK) and supply side tax cuts (Reagan) and Ed will shit-his-already-soiled pants

why are you changing the subject??????????????????????? are you afraid to answer????????????? Here it is again:

ed, Dante rarely engages you because you are retarded to the nth degree

actually all conservatives think that tax and spend doesn't work and cant possibly work. Dante (Rdean) doesn't engage any conservative because he know he lacks the IQ to do so. Does he think he fools anyone by cutting and pasting a little from Krugman.

Wow, someone is actually admitting to reading that. That book is ranked like 200+ in the economics section on Amazon last time I checked.

Poor Dante read the book, started a thread on it, and then found out he couldn't defend one single argument in the book!! Liberalism is embarrassing for liberals intellectually, but still, they know in their hearts they are morally superior because they like to imagine they care more!!
