Kristallnacht was the day German Jews realized that things were only going to get worse and worse. After the original Nuremberg laws were passed, and as the years went on, they may have thought they could out-last the Nazis.

The government's response to Kristallnacht told them that this wouldn't be the case, and many tried to leave if they could.

To the shame of the future allies, many were denied entry to places that could save them. Some ran to places like France and the Low Countries, and got gobbled up later, but in the end it was for naught.
