Komen Foundation reverses funding decision of Planned Parenthood - CNN.com

(CNN) -- Faced with a deluge of opposition that included pressure from lawmakers and internal dissent, one of America's leading breast cancer advocacy groups on Friday reversed itself on a decision that would have cut off funding to some Planned Parenthood projects.

"We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women's lives," the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation said in a statement. "We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants, while maintaining the ability of our affiliates to make funding decisions that meet the needs of their communities."

The group's earlier decision not to renew part of its longstanding partnership with Planned Parenthood, which operates hundreds of family clinics that perform abortions, triggered strong emotions across the country. It provoked objection even from some of its own affiliates...

Yeah three cheers, your all's abortions will still be funded...

And... that's a bad thing? I say... :clap2:

yep, 50 million aborted children and counting

Komen really lost. Too bad. Anyone who donates to Komen donates to Planned Parenthood. It's time to stop believing they are interested in breast cancer when they are really just another front group for abortionists.

You know little about Planned Parenthood

The less money they have, the fewer abortions they will be able to perform. If you don't donate directly to PP, then don't donate to any of the front groups like Komen either.

You know little about Planned Parenthood

I know all about them. I used to work with them. I once thought they had the interests of women at their foundation. They don't.

More nonsense.....

Charming sentiment, baby killer.

That "waste" is dead babies. Scum.

And to be fair, I do think that they should offer give back any money they raised over the last two days, since that was mostly coming from pro-lifers who were voicing support for the organization's decision not to fund Planned Parenthood

The larger question asked is whether the Susan G. Komen Foundation permanently damaged its brand. The consensus is yes they have.

Did the Komen charity's Planned Parenthood diss backfire? - Yahoo! News

Komen won't live this down: "Komen's brand is imploding," and they deserve it, says Erin Gloria Ryan at Jezebel. By picking anti-abortion zealots over poor women who need mammograms, Komen has seriously alienated young women and progressive supporters who'd been "drawn to the cause expressly because of their non-political approach to a non-political disease." Komen is no longer a "viable charity," and "the only thing it's curing right now is people's desire to raise any more money for them."

It couldn't happen to a more deserving organization.

Wow, that is a perfect and succinct explanation.

Birth control is a way for people to prevent pregnancy and to plan the timing of pregnancy. Birth control is also commonly called contraception. People have used birth control methods for thousands of years.

Today, we have many safe and effective birth control methods available to us. All of us who need birth control want to find the method that is best for us. And each of us has different needs when choosing a method.

Choosing a method of contraception = learning about the methods.

* Abstinence
* Birth Control Implant (Implanon)
* Birth Control Patch (Ortho Evra)
* Birth Control Pill
* Birth Control Vaginal Ring (NuvaRing)
* Birth Control Shot (Depo-Provera)
* Birth Control Sponge (Today Sponge)
* Breastfeeding
* Cervical Cap (FemCap)
* Condom
* Diaphragm
* Emergency Contraception (Morning After Pill)
* Female Condom
* Fertility Awareness
* IUD
* Outercourse
* Spermicide
* Sterilization for Women
* Vasectomy
* Withdrawal (Pull Out Method)

Planned Parenthood believes that becoming a sexually healthy adult is an important part of adolescent development.

We also believe that maturing adolescents can learn to make healthy decisions, foster communication skills, develop meaningful relationships, and express affection, love, and intimacy in ways that are consistent with their personal values.

And we believe that adults play an important role in supporting young people during this time.

Komen was led astray by the misinformation from a republican house member. Komen should wait for hard evidence before allowing themselves to get misdirected.

They are a solid organization with many years of helping women.

GOP loses again...

what the fuck does any of this have to do with Democrats or Republicans you partisan hack

It's a private Charity...no one should be able to tell them what to do with their money..

but it's a shame if they were bullied into changing their mind...but you all don't mind that.

Interesting you should ask.........

First, the GOP started in by trying to defund PP via Congress, but after 2 tries, they knew that the Senate Dems would stop it every time.

Then.........some GOP congress critter goes and decides to start investigating them to see if they've done anything wrong with their abortion procedures and puts LOTS of conditions on the way the information is to be presented.

Then..........SURPRISE! The head of the Komen foundation (a Republican) states that because of NEW GUIDLINES they will no longer fund PP since they are currently under investigation.

Nope, Komen did this to themselves by trying to secretly play politics behind the scenes.

really? Consensus?

from your link...

Actually, Komen will be just fine: Let's say Komen did defund Planned Parenthood over abortion, says Tina Korbe at Hot Air. "So what?" That doesn't "lessen the nobility of Komen's mission." Quite the opposite. Komen gained "credibility as an organization exclusively dedicated to the eradication of breast cancer," without any "notorious" side issues. You can "advocate for 'women's health' without advocating for 'abortion rights.'"
How does that fit in with your consensus, dipshit?

Boy, they really did cave. Alright then.

GOP loses again...

The GOP will never make abortion illegal; they'd be victims of their own success. It would be one less non-issue topic they get to spout off about every year. I'm a "pro-life" advocate myself. Having said that, to be fair, the GOP wins here. Because it gives them more ammunition to carry on about how tax money is being used for killing babies, which isn't really the coolest thing in the world.
