Woody Allen is a prolific writer, humourist, and cultural icon. He is personally and credibly accused of sexually molesting his younger daughter when she was seven years old, and he married an adopted daughter under circumstances that make it likely that he had an inappropriate relationship with her while she was still under the "age of consent." For evidentiary reasons, the Authorities declined to prosecute him for molesting the 7-year-old, and of course he denies that the abuse took place, but that victim maintains her story and in fact she has no reason to lie about it.
Joe Paterno had a friend and subordinate who was, according to a mountain of evidence, a serial child molester. This behavior had nothing to do with his coaching, or any of his duties as Paterno's assistant. Sandusky's "cover" was that he took in a large number of needy foster-kids, as a charitable venture. Apparently, there was a long series of rumors and semi-credible accusations against Sandusky, and Paterno had to at least be aware of them, but he never did anything definitively (that we are aware of) to stop it. The only rational explanation for Paterno's inaction during the long period in question is that he assumed that Sandusky was just a very "touchy-feely" person with his foster kids, and that physicality was incorrectly construed by some as inappropriate behavior. Paterno chose to believe that his friend and subordinate was not a child molester.
Paterno's name, may he rest in peace, is regularly drug through the mud as lawyers hoping to cash in dredge up claims that he "knew or should have known" about Sandusky's despicable activities during the time when they worked together, hence he is as big a dirtbag as Sandusky. Woody Allen has a slight stain on his public image, but continues working and receiving accolades for his work.
