If you want to offer up the path of least resistance you get more people coming, and it makes it exponentially harder to monitor what the Drug Cartels are doing... sure, they can come by ship and plane, but when you tie up so many of our agents on the border, you reduce efficiency all the way around. Cartels have billions of dollars, and they're operating inside the US. Why make it easier for them? I wouldnt be supprised at all if they haven't bought off Mayorkas or threatened his family by the way he has acted.

Joe Biden recently asked Congress for $40 billion dollars in the form of an emergency funding package.

Part of this funding would apparently go towards building housing for illegal immigrants at the border so that they have a place to live while they are being processed.

We have thousands of homeless veterans in this country and Biden wants to use tax dollars to build housing for people entering the country illegally.
