Um, not really. We produce far more goods and materials today than we did in 1945. In order to win WWII, we had to ration and control everything to make sure that we had enough material to fight the war. Also, China and Russia did far more of the heavy lifting in the war than we did. We didn't win the war as so much as just ended up in an advantageous position after all the other players had beaten themselves bloody.

The reality is, for most of history, China was the world's biggest economy. That's why Columbus was so keen to find a better route to get to China, that's where all the good stuff was. So for a brief moment in history, England and then America became the dominant economy. Now China is becoming the biggest economy by virtue of the fact they simply have the most people (and manpower.)

It's just not that big of a deal. Having the world's second economy is still pretty good, on a per capita basis, we are still far wealthier.
