The case by federal prosecutors against former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn is not yet at a point where the former Army Lt. General can be sentenced, MSNBC reported Tuesday.
Flynn served for 25 days as President Donald Trump’s National Security Advisor at the beginning of the administration. He has since pleaded guilty to one felony count of lying to the FBI.
A former Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York read the tea leaves of what can be concluded from today’s court filings.
“I would say that it’s unlikely they’re getting more information from Flynn, but they have the information they need,” former federal prosecutor Daniel Goldman suggested.
“And what is clear, from the need to adjourn it, is that they still need Michael Flynn,” Goldman explained. “Prosecutors need cooperating witnesses, as we saw here with Rick Gates, all the way through any trial against anyone else. They would have to testify.”
“So the fact they’re delaying Flynn means there’s more coming down the pipeline from the special counsel,” he concluded.
