Chicago, Chicago, that Toddling Town

Shinzo Abe, Japan's former leader, died at the age of 67 Friday after being shot during a campaign speech in western Japan, hospital officials confirmed. Japan's NHK Television earlier reported Abe's death. It was a shocking attack in a country that has some of the strictest gun control laws anywhere.

Abe was shot from behind minutes after he started his speech Friday in Nara in western Japan. Local fire department official Makoto Morimoto said Abe was in cardio and pulmonary arrest after being shot. His heart stopped while he was being airlifted to a hospital, Morimoto said. He was pronounced dead later at the hospital.

Police arrested a male suspect at the scene of the shooting in Nara, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno told reporters. According to NHK, Japan's public broadcaster, Tetsuya Yamagami, 41, was arrested.

Comment - this is shocking, because Japan has some of the strongest gun control measures in the world. The assassin appears to be former military, for what that's worth.

Although not recently, Japan has a history of such assassinations.

True.

Abe was a pretty controversial figure. He basically took the position that Japan didn't do anything wrong during World War II, and his grandfather, Kishi Nobusuke, was a war criminal.

Kishi himself was the subject of an assassination attempt with a knife.

If you are not willing to risk having a bullet in your head, stay out of politics

Sad. But it is just politics

If daddy Kennedy didn't rig the the 60 election, that louse wouldn't have sprayed blood and skull matter in his bitches faces

So the dude got around it by making his own.

People will find a way. Even your idea of gunning for the manufacturers here to get rid of guns would just result in underground machine shops turning them out much like we have underground chemistry labs turning out drugs.

Every country likes to portray itself as virtuous. No one wants to recognize error; that might admit lack of perfection. Look at America; even the suggestion that something was wrong is taken as an attack, insult and, worst of all, "commie".

Shows the pointlessness of Draconian Style Gun Control.

President Trump is a good friend of Shinzo "Honest" Abe and hosted the Japanese leader at his domicile in Palm Beach.

Dude didn't buy a handgun, he MADE one.

Dipshit.

The point is that people will still be armed regardless if they can buy handguns or not.

Look at history, man. Ever hear of the Crusades? Battle of Zama? Assassination of Julius Fucking Caesar?

All very violent events, and they all occurred BEFORE firearms were even invented.

The idea that Draconian Style Gun Control will stop violence is a load of shit.

Which just goes to show you that if someone is determined enough they will figure out a way to kill someone.

I don't worry so much about the "Truly determined". Most murderers did not wake up that morning and say, "I'm gonna commit a murder."

So, yes, the determined murderer won't be stopped by gun contol, but the guy who shoots his wife over who drank the last can of Milwaukee's best.

So by that logic, we should say, "Fuck it", and sell Crystal Meth, Cocaine and Heroin at the CVS

The difference is you want to trample my RKBA even though I've never done anything wrong, in order to get to your gun free "utopia"

In a fucking heartbeat.

Now, if you guys really wanted to enjoy the PRIVILEGE of owning guns, then you'd treat it like that. You'd make your club pretty exclusive.

Which means..

You'd WANT thorough background checks. You'd want guns taken away from people who might go over the edge...

But instead, the Gun Lobby has convinced you idiots that these guys are your brothers in arms.

You see, the gun industry WANTS crooks and crazies to have guns. They are selling fear. You only have fear if you have crime.

It didn't used to be this way. Up until the 1970's, the NRA supported common sense gun laws. But then hunting fell out of fashion and the gun industry realized the crazies were their next niche market.

There were laws in place to prevent the first guy from getting guns, and the government didn't do what it was supposed to do.

Meanwhile your side thinks making me pay $500 bucks and wait 3-6 months just to keep a fucking revolver in my apartment is 'reasonable"
