The pilot flew into airspace he was not supposed to be. Israel took action as Syria is a hostile nation technically still at war with Israel.
If his intentions were not hostile, he would have communicated with Israel before entering it's airspace.
IDF took appropriate action. US is also authorized to shoot down planes that enter restricted airspace without permission or waiver. If it was an emergency there are a number of ways to communicate that they need to enter and land.
Arab flights, or flights to and from an arab country, except perhaps Jordan, are not allowed into Israel airspace. Every pilot in Syria or the region know that. One flight from Iraq was permitted, the pilot was defecting and flying a mig 21. 6 pilots from Algeria mistakenly landed at el-arish and were arrested. One of the pilots requested asylum. The other five were returned to Algeria.
Threat levels are much higher now than a few decades ago.

Syria pilot ejected safely. The plane was a fully armed, Russian made Sukhoi 24 (Fencer) which flew from Saikal air base in eastern Syria. Plane was likely heading to bomb Quneitra.

Why? A fact is useless unless it is in context. The respected reporter - not only a blogger by the way - has put it in context. Not a context you may like but tough shit on that one.

A cold war is one thing. Escalating to a hot war is quite another. And shooting at a retreating aircraft which poses no threat is an escalation by Israel no matter how you want to paint it. As I say, Israel doing the most violent thing it can. As usual.

As to the pilots maybe living through the event. That is not just a big assumption on your part, there are massive risks in ejecting from an aircraft, and more from being in an aircraft when it is hit by a missile; but if they DID survive, that is entirely a matter of luck, nothing to do with Israel's intent.

I think you will find there were a lot of American soldiers fighting with them. In Israeli uniforms or aircraft with neutral or Israeli paint, yes. But there were more than just a few.

Murder is the unlawful and extra-judicial killing of a person. The guilt or innocence has not been at issue in the decision to murder him, only the intent and will of those who order the act.
