You are describing the end play of 'globalism' / 'one world order' desired by many of the 'Bilderbergs'. The thing to realize is that law enforcement would be step one and they would, in large part, fold at that point. Most, if not all, are family oriented types that have far more allegiance to their families and fellow citizens than to state, county, town. Same goes for the military but at a much higher dissuasion bar that would have to be reached... can't exactly up and leave the armed forces without some serious blow back. The real issue is with UN / NATO type forces coming in here they would carry out any atrocities without qualm... At least for the foreseeable future we have checked this 'globalism' trend. For instance, there was a firearms bill giving the UN the authority to dictate gun laws in our country... Trump put an end to that. The precipitous slide toward the 'elites' running the world is tenuous but we have a bit of respite here for the immediate future. The general philosophy to bear in mind is that this 'Bilderberg' One world model is designed for the elites to control the masses. They may not have all the money (much of it) but control and power is the objective, along with curtailing the population size.

There are approximately 2.5 million active military. I don't know the ratio of state and municipal police, but they and their families have to live in their neighborhoods, and would likely stand down if martial law was implemented for any but the most dire of reasons.

Our founding fathers' wisdom was keen... The scenario presented here has close correlation to what the Revolutionary War was fought over... Times change but the tenets of freedom, not so much. It really is incumbent on the majority of the population to bear arms, first and foremost, for protecting our collective freedom against tyranny. In 1800, if you had told Americans that they would willing vote for the American government to require them to surrender their children to forced government schooling by the year 1900, you might have gotten a similar response.

In 1990, if you had told Americans that they would willing vote for the American government to require them to surrender their freedom to make decisions over their own health care and then soon after their college education and career choices by 2030 to government control, you might have gotten a similar response.

If you had told Americans in 2000 that they would be talking about a guaranteed basic income at the expense of economic growth and freedom to innovate by the year 2040, they might have given you a similar response.

The Patriot Act was not designed to be used against supposed terrorists. “It’s not meant for intelligence, it’s for criminal cases,” Assistant Attorney General David Kris told the Senate Judiciary Committee. “So I guess it’s not surprising to me that it applies in drug cases.”

The Patriot Act allows the government to search and seize Americans’ papers and effects without probable cause to assist “terror” (drug and other victimless crime) investigations. It prevents a right to a speedy and public trial (ask American Jose Padilla about this one). It discourages freedom of association, freedom of speech (the government may prosecute librarians or keepers of any other records if they tell anyone the government subpoenaed information related to a terror investigation), and the right to legal representation (the government may monitor conversations between attorneys and clients in federal prisons and deny lawyers to Americans accused of crimes).

2013 NDAA EXPANDS POWER OF MILITARY TO DETAIN CITIZENS
“This year, through the incorporation of the Right to Habeas Corpus Act, the bill makes clear beyond a shadow of a doubt that every American will have his day in court,” a press release issued by the Armed Services Committee states.

Is the NDAA 2013 an improvement over the previous version? At first glance, it would seem so. Consider the following clause included in the bill:

Nothing in the AUMF [Authorization for the Use of Military Force] or the 2012 NDAA shall be construed to deny the availability of the writ of habeas corpus or to deny any Constitutional rights in a court ordained or established by or under Article III of the Constitution for any person who is lawfully in the United States when detained pursuant to the AUMF and who is otherwise entitled to the availability of such writ or such rights.

However, according to Bruce Afran, a lawyer for a group of journalists and activists suing the government over the NDAA 2012, this is merely smoke and mirrors.

Because there are no established rules allowing a citizen to exercise the right to a civilian trial, as guaranteed by the Constitution (specifically, the Sixth Amendment), detained citizens have no way to gain access to lawyers, family or a civilian court after they are detained by the military.

“The biggest thing about the [2012] NDAA was that you weren’t getting a trial … Nothing in here says that you’ll make it to an Article III court so it literally does nothing,” Dan Johnson, founder of People Against the NDAA, told Business Insider on Thursday. “It’s a bunch of words, basically.”

“The new statute actually states that persons lawfully in the U.S. can be detained under the Authorization for the Use of Military Force [AUMF]. The original (the statute we are fighting in court) never went that far,” Afran explained. “Therefore, under the guise of supposedly adding protection to Americans, the new statute actually expands the AUMF to civilians in the U.S.”

Although Kentucky Senator Rand Paul is being portrayed as a savior by offering up language that would “affirm the Sixth Amendment of the Constitution and limit the indefinite detention of Americans,” more than a few observers of his co-sponsored amendment to the NDAA say the effort does not go far enough.
