Moral Maze
This week the Moral Maze asks: "is it our moral duty to have fewer children?" The question has been brought in to focus by two stories in the past week. First, that by 2027 the population of the UK isexpected to top 70 million people and the second that China is to end its "one child" policy. With 238,737 births every day the world population is rapidly approaching 7 and a half billion and will be 8 billion by 2024. While many people will be campaigning for tougher policies at next month's UN climate change conference, should they also be calling for policies to control population growth?

yes, especially since parenting is so shitty nowadays....

only what you can afford to raise on your income.
Most educated couples have only two to three children.
If you really have the love and money, adopt more children. 147 million children around the world need homes and families.

No but many on the left think so. What does that say about them?

I think all the eugenicists and those who thing we should engage in population reduction should set the example and rid themselves first. I feel that it is their moral duty.

One Monkeys moral duty could be another Monkeys religious abomination.

If we are to truly have religious freedom, judging things like another Monkeys 'moral duty' is a sin, right?

go tell that to Muslims with 10 wives....put that idea in their heads first.

I am all for fewer children in that Sharia Law kind of scenario

.
not mentioned is the decimation taking place for all other species on Earth caused by the egocentrific human race
... then questions its importance.

- (they are) so hopeless.

Projections say global pop will level out around 11 billion around 2050. Isn't expected to increase beyond11 thankfully. Of course, 9 or 10 of those billion will be Muslims. :)

Of course not. Do you know why China had to end that policy?

Of course not. Do you know why China had to end that policy?

They eased the policy this year, they did not abolish it.

barryqwalsh,
You bring up some interesting truths. But now I am going to tell you some truths that could get me banned. The population of Whites isn't rising. In some places, it may even be going down a little. Seeing how Whites aren't the ones doing the overpopulating, how would you control population growth without being "politically incorrect." What could you do about overpopulation that wouldn't get you branded as a "RACIST!!!" I know what the answer is. Embrace "racism." Do you agree or disagree.
