In May 2018 Trump removed the U.S. from the Iranian nuclear agreement, or JCPOA, which permanently barred Iran from making a nuclear weapon. Trump replaced the agreement with harsh language, threats, and stringent economic sanctions.
Trump's strategy has not worked. Gradually, Iran has been following the example Trump set, violating the JCPOA. In addition, Iran has mined and captured ships, destroyed the largest oil refinery in the world, even shooting down a very sophisticated American aircraft.
She has now taken another step in that direction.
ABC News reports, "The nuclear deal limited Iran to using only 5,060 first-generation IR-1 centrifuges. Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of Iran's nuclear program, said that Tehran is now operating 60 IR-6 advanced centrifuges in violation of its atomic deal with world powers. That's double the amount previously known."
In addition, Salehi said, "Iran is working on a the prototype called an IR-9 that would be 50-times faster than the first-generation IR-1s allowed under the accord."
It's complicated, but by starting up these advanced centrifuges, Iran further cuts into the one-year time limit that experts estimate Tehran would need to have enough material to build a nuclear weapon, if it chose to pursue one.
Iran has said its centrifuge decision is a direct result of U.S. President Donald Trump's withdrawal from the agreement more than a year ago.
Thank you, Mr. President.
Can a President be removed from office for being incompetent and a threat to our national security ... actually, the security of the planet?
