Interesting news regarding private prisons...

They may be starting to lose steam as a business. Take a look at these numbers for one private prison corporation for example.

Personally I'm on the fence about private prisons, but regardless I felt this was worth mentioning.

Private prisons are no more free market than the post office or utilities. Free enterprise is not about companies, it's about consumer choice. I don't care about this issue any more than any other governmental issue. It has zero to do with capitalism either way
 
The Feds contract out the Job Corps program, saying it's cheaper. Our state is farming out its assistance program for welfare/disability clients with multiple handicaps to employment. They say it will save money.
The government does it a lot; probably because with their bureaucratic structure, they would need more managers than caseworkers and teachers to make it run. I think the contractors know how much the government spends, though, and gets every penny they dare through their bidding process.
