If your kids turn out gay, would you kill them as Bible/Islam imply?

Speaking of "reality", one reason we didn't bring forward the talking snake is because we don't believe that talking snakes are "real". If a job prospect, during the interview, talked to your about a talking squirrel that gave him some really really great advice one time, you'd never hire him, would you? In other words talking animals (ok, parrots) are not "reality", and determining what is real or not is an important part of being human - otherwise we'd have to believe that Zeus and Thor are actually real.

What does this have to do with the roll of gender in basic biology? :dunno:

Jesus defining marriage as between a man and a woman (not man/man, nor woman/woman) is part of the underlying problem that we need to overcome, if we are to overcome intolerance with love and understanding.

Sounds like it is reality and biology you seek to overcome.

A better way is to define marriage as between man/woman, and man/man, and woman/woman. Doing so will elevate one's level of love and compassion to a level so high that it's even higher than someone as great as Jesus'! Elevating your level of love to be even higher than someone as great as Jesus is a very worthwhile goal in life - to say the least!

A man and a women is a breeding pair. A man and a man can never be.

Your ignorance does not render reality moot.
Like Scientific Humanists, can you be accepting enough, tolerant enough, to accept man/man and woman/woman marriages, if those people want that? In other words, can you support true love like we do, or do you stand in the way of true love, mi amigo?

Thanks!

Yes, something you seem to lack a grasp of. Reality is that the two genders are required to produce offspring. Tolerance is irrelevant, reality exists.

If your kid(s) robbed a bank would you help them to escape to another state ??
We believe in democracy, and democratic laws don't allow that. We believe in fair justice - for example Christians should get the exact same 'after-life' (if any) punishment/reward as Muslims get, as atheists get, as Hindus get - assuming those all did the same level of good works and were as ethical. Which invisible friend in the sky they happened to believe in should not be a factor.

You are very correct. But on their own, by themselves, gays don't reproduce. Their tendency to produce children is lesser.

Question: If your children turn out to eventually be gay, would you kill them as the Bible/Islamic texts imply, or are the Bible/Islamic texts wrong? Which is it?

“If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives.” (Leviticus 20:13 NAB)

If you reply "I don't follow the OT", that's great - then admit that it's wrong (or else you'd follow it).

I believe in loving gays, so of course I think we can move beyond the morality in the Bible/Islamic texts since they got it wrong.

Your opinion?
If your kid turned out not to be gay would you kill him?

From the time of Adam until Moses, the prophets and the people of God had the high priesthood which is after the holy order of God. This priesthood is also known as the Melchizedek Priesthood. In Moses' time, he brought the children of Israel out of bondage from Egypt into the wilderness. It was God's plan to sanctify his people and have them enter into the presence of God in the wilderness. But the children of Israel were a hard hearted and stiffnecked people who refused to humble themselves and prepare themselves to receive greater light and truth. They rejected God and his will to bring them to the true knowledge of their God by allowing them to see him. When Moses came down off of the Mount from being in the presence of the Lord, his face did shine because God's glory was upon him. The people had this witness that Moses had actually been in God's presence yet they refused to prepare themselves to enter into his glory. For the people to prepare themselves, they needed the high priesthood and the higher law. But the children of Israel were not humble and refused to partake of God's goodness. For this reason Moses and the High Priesthood was taken out of their midst which meant that the higher law was not to be given them but a lesser law, a law of carnal commandments. This lesser law along with a lesser priesthood continued with the children of Israel until John the Baptist who was called on to prepare the way before the coming of the Lord. When the Lord came, he brought with him the higher priesthood and the higher law.

Doctrine and Covenants 84:14-27

14 Which Abraham received the priesthood from Melchizedek, who received it through the lineage of his fathers, even till Noah;
15 And from Noah till Enoch, through the lineage of their fathers;
16 And from Enoch to Abel, who was slain by the conspiracy of his brother, who received the priesthood by the commandments of God, by the hand of his father Adam, who was the first man—
17 Which priesthood continueth in the church of God in all generations, and is without beginning of days or end of years.
18 And the Lord confirmed a priesthood also upon Aaron and his seed, throughout all their generations, which priesthood also continueth and abideth forever with the priesthood which is after the holiest order of God.
19 And this greater priesthood administereth the gospel and holdeth the key of the mysteries of the kingdom, even the key of the knowledge of God.
20 Therefore, in the ordinances thereof, the power of godliness is manifest.
21 And without the ordinances thereof, and the authority of the priesthood, the power of godliness is not manifest unto men in the flesh;
22 For without this no man can see the face of God, even the Father, and live.
23 Now this Moses plainly taught to the children of Israel in the wilderness, and sought diligently to sanctify his people that they might behold the face of God;
24 But they hardened their hearts and could not endure his presence; therefore, the Lord in his wrath, for his anger was kindled against them, swore that they should not enter into his rest while in the wilderness, which rest is the fulness of his glory.
25 Therefore, he took Moses out of their midst, and the Holy Priesthood also;
26 And the lesser priesthood continued, which priesthood holdeth the key of the ministering of angels and the preparatory gospel;
27 Which gospel is the gospel of repentance and of baptism, and the remission of sins, and the law of carnal commandments, which the Lord in his wrath caused to continue with the house of Aaron among the children of Israel until John, whom God raised up, being filled with the Holy Ghost from his mother’s womb.

When the higher priesthood was taken out of the midst of the children of Israel, they, as a people, did not have the gift of the Holy Ghost. Moses had it and the prophets of the old testament received the higher priesthood, but the people as a whole did not receive it. They did not have God's spirit with them as individuals. For this reason it was necessary for God to give the people a very strict law of carnal commandments to keep them from turning toward sin. Thus diverse laws and ordinances were given in the law of Moses that seem quite harsh to us today. This is why you see a difference in law of Moses verses the law of the Gospel as given by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
