If the US government suspended all civil liberties, imposed martial law, and began arresting people for expressing dissent, seizing their guns, abandoning due process, people'd go completely spare yes?

But when a religion's rules say the very same things, somehow that's okay. Ever wonder why? Ever ask yourself why when the government proposes doing soemthing religion's brought up in support of it, or in opposition against it. Yet that very same religion has pleanty of rules proposing far more draconian things yet magically that's ok with people whereas if a government tried half-assed versions of what religions say people scream bloody murder.

No one has to follow a religion, nor religious laws. But, breaking a federally enacted law is another matter. Think about it.

Wasn't the point.

And the point was?

Too many people are still looking to the scriptures to justify their need to impose their narrow morality on the public but the argument you make is very much apples and oranges. The biblical scriptures are not an accurate depiction of how the ancients actually lived or to what degree they actually followed those commandments.

We the People chose instead to live our lives free from the specious "laws" of all religions and to grant ourselves inalienable rights that no religion has ever granted.

Very simple here folks..... Most of us realize there is a far higher Law than anything humanity can come up with. Personally I refer to it as Universal Morality but it goes by any number of names

The Universe has no "morality law".

All "morality" derives from society. There is no other source of morality.

The very underlying principle behind the founders intent as to separation of church and state, abuse. The fundamental concept prohibits the establishment of a government sponsored church and at the same time promotes individual worship. With that understood the founders were very religious and had experienced first hand the abuse that results in the suppression of freedom. In the same light fully subscribed to the understanding and concept that freedom came from God not a church or government.

Worse, they think they have the right because they've been told it's "God's word".

You better go back and alter your comment before you are ridiculed off the board. Considering you've been here three years, I don't understand how you could say something so ignorant. That's why people need to use Google.

Care to provide some actual evidence of this "first hand" "abuse that results in the suppression of freedom" especially as it relates to being "very religious"?

Where does your God grant you freedom from religion, free speech, voting rights, habeas corpus rights, etc, etc?

Of course but it still a rationalization, every sect, no matter how strict, has picked which of God's commandments they will adhere to, and more importantly, the escape hatch from those commandments so they too can lie, steal and cheat.

Yes morals are derived from society,

Moral certainty is always a sign of cultural inferiority. The more uncivilized the man, the surer he is that he knows precisely what is right and what is wrong. All human progress, even in morals, has been the work of men who have doubted the current moral values, not of men who have whooped them up and tried to enforce them. The truly civilized man is always skeptical and tolerant.

Your response fails to accept that facts are not relevant to issues of Faith. Since the Soul will be judged based on your thoughts, words, and actions related to Faith not science I suggest that Faith is far more important than "facts".
