No, because the point of gun control isn't preventing gun crime, the point of gun control is giving the government the option of rounding people up and putting them in death camps if the government feels that is necessary to stay in power.

He was assassinated with a homemade gun by a military veteran. Up close and personal. Not an AR-15 from a rooftop.
