Zone1 "If Americans Don't Pay With Their Tax Dollars For Ukraine to Fight Against The Russian Invasion They Will Eventually Have to Pay With Their Lives..."

No reparations. That's a dead horse.

You going to sue Indians and quite a few black people to get them? Not only white people owned slaves in America and the government did not. The majority of the white populace did not own slaves either. Only the elite did.

Yeah, that's just a non-starter. I don't think we need to send money to Ukraine, either. Maybe munitions, maybe food, maybe arms.

Newsvine is a reparationer? :(
Reparations are going to come.

Quite a few black people did not own slaves and the government made slavery legal.

But as has been the standard you leave out the years after slavery ended which in effect, renders your argument as worthless idiotic uninformed white racist ranting.

Living in a country whose youngsters now openly embrace socialism and communism, I don't think you'll get much in the way of support these days.
As opposed to the fascism for non whites and women and democracy for hugely wealthy white males we live in now?

What? “Quite a few” black people didn’t own slaves? I can’t believe you are giving a nod to the black people who owned black slaves. You feeling okay IM2?

Hell yeah! I’ll send my tax dollars to the French resistance before sending it to the Nazis in Ukraine.

Their plan is unfolding perfectly. Keep us at each other’s throats over race, while they screw us all.

Oh, I didn't realize that there was a stigma associated with working towards that particular goal especially in light of all of the lame excuses regarding why it can't be done when it's already been done multiple times in the U.S.

The United States pays reparations every day—just not to Black America

HKS faculty members Cornell William Brooks and Linda Bilmes explore why the extensive U.S. system of restorative justice is so disconnected from the multi-faceted, intergenerational harms suffered by Black Americans.

FEATURING LINDA BILMES & CORNELL WILLIAM BROOKS

45 MINUTES AND 26 SECONDS

Farmers. Fishermen. People who’ve lost bank accounts or pensions. People who’ve had a bad reaction to a COVID vaccine. People who’ve had a reaction to any other vaccine. Indigenous people. Veterans. Descendants of veterans. People who get hurt on the job. People who built nuclear bombs. People exposed to pesticides. Coal miners who get black lung disease. People who lose paychecks or homes from floods, droughts, or other natural disasters. People who are impacted by trade agreements.
That’s a long list. But it's still a fraction of the many people and groups who receive compensation either from or through the government for the harms they have suffered. Every day, someone somewhere in America is being compensated under the concept of what is known as restorative justice, a type of justice that instead of meting out punishment to a wrongdoer, seeks to make the victims or their families whole—or at least repair them as much as possible. Restorative justice is also known as reparative justice, or, in the context of the experience of Black Americans from the first slave ships in the 1600s through to today, simply reparations.
But unlike those other, everyday reparations, Black reparations are seen by many as a highly charged political third rail, so last year Harvard Kennedy School faculty members Cornell William Brooks and Linda Bilmes launched a research project to see if they could change the conversation. What they found is a situation that is, to put it mildly, perverse. Cataloging the harms suffered by Black Americans through the centuries from slavery itself through segregation, disenfranchisement, economic and educational discrimination, wealth inequality, and more, they found that no group was perhaps more deserving of being made whole. They also studied and cataloged a huge system of American restorative compensation that works every day to make people whole for harms they have suffered. What they didn’t find, however, was a connection between the two.

I'm as white as white people come, and I'll say it right now: I do not want one more red cent of American money going to Ukraine. Nor do I believe anyone deserves anything for something that happened 160 years ago. Nobody alive today lived back then.
Jim Crow didn't end until the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. That's 60 years ago not 160 years.

I obtained this quote from the CBS Weekend News when it did a segment on the war in Ukraine. It's posted here in the Race & Racism forum because there are a lot of people on this message board who are adamant that they don't want any of their tax dollars going to pay Black people in the U.S. for reparations even though tax dollars is not the only option the government has. While this attitude is to be expected from certain member, I don't recall however seeing any threads about not wanting any of their tax dollars going to fight the war in Ukraine and I'm curious about why this is?

Why the difference in attitude? Is it because the Ukrainians are white?

When I heard this quote I couldn't help but wonder why this person feels this way. These are not my words but several countries in the world apparently feel entitled to the support of the American people via our tax dollar contributions to their fight against Russia or whomever.

I asked because I have never seen the vitriol directed towards the Ukrainians being recipients of our tax dollar that I've seen directed towards Black people and the topic of reparations.

We are a pretty old nation, and a complex nation, and things are not always that simple.

I recommend this.

Your OP makes a horrible start when you talk about the Russian invasion of Ukraine .
It was never that, though news reporting for almost the last two years has conditioned nearly everybody that it is 100% the truth .
This absurdly simple submission is utter nonsense but relentless propaganda has converted real facts into their opposite .

Ironically the West will effectively pay for its lies as a bankrupt and vanquished Ukraine lies in pieces .

You say things are complex then you post that Davis is a descendant of somebody who came over on the Mayflower. So? Does that mean Davis didn't face Jim Crow? Let's stop being white suggesting to blacks that we read and watch stupid stuff. If a black person is a descendant of a slaveowner, it is more than likely due to this:

"The treatment of black females who were slaves has contributed to the disparities in sexual and reproductive health today. The experiences that female slaves endured included public nudity; nude physical auction examinations to determine reproductive ability; rape for sexual pleasure and for economic purposes (reproducing children who could become slaves); intentional abortion to women who were pregnant as a result of rape, generational poverty; and hyper sexualization. From adolescence, black female slaves were subjected to their master's desire for them to reproduce because increasing the number of slaves resulted in an increase in profits. Whether it beforceful or subtle, there were instances of sexual intervention that occurred at the hands of the slave master."

Agreed.

This still does not mean, her, and her relatives have not benefited from privilege.

You would be making assumptions.

Is someone feeling the pinch of Bidenomics now? Sorry, we had your reparations but President Joe blew it all on the war in Ukraine.

Imagine that: The same white Democrats who took away what your ancestors had, and now taking away what you have through high inflation and wars.

Go figure.

Well I realize now that most here believe the quotation is mine when it's a direct quote from a Ukrainian citizen appealing/cajoling/threatening that if U.S. citizens don't pay now with their tax dollars then we will pay later with our lives.

I guess I could have asked how many people are writing their representatives to let them know that they don't want their tax dollars going to aid people outside of the U.S. and how the government responded. Maybe I'll do that next...

So what's the REAL story?

Uh huh, have you written the government yet and let them know that you demand that none of your tax dollars go to Ukraine or reparations?
