I told my employer i'm not signing up

That's a very risky way to make a protest statement. A bout of meningitis with $2 Million in medical bills would cure that urge of yours.

What would have been more effective is a catastrophic policy that does not cover any extras. It makes the same statement but it does not leave you and your family in the lurch if something bad were to happen.
Those policies have been made illegal.

As well they should of been.

They were a cute attempt by HMOs to make a quick buck after 2009.

You're misinformed. Catastrophic plans have been available for decades.

Throughout our history, Blue Shield has laid claim to several notable 'firsts' in the industry: in 1943, we offered the first health plan in the nation with coverage for pre-existing conditions under group programs; in 1950, we introduced the first catastrophic coverage in the nation

You have no intention of paying. That's why you force others to do it, and force them to accept crap care in order to pay for the fact that you refuse to pay.

I have over $4000 in medical bills sitting on my desk right now. My wife spent two weeks in the hospital and ran up $97,000 in charges. My insurance picked up most of it and I am responsible for the rest. I will pay my part

What would the OP do?

it's great things worked out for you with your CHOICE to buy health insurance.
where I live in los angeles where there are millions of illegals and new immigrants, these people aren't paying 97k and they're not going to pay 4k either.

you guys talk about people forced to pay for people, that's why obamacare was passed, so insurance companies would stop losing money for the illegals who have no intention of paying bills.
since the left-wing would never dream of enforcing immigration policy, the answer was obvious, pass obamacare and FORCE Americans to pay for therm.

AND...no one paid for me , I go to clinics and pay 2 or 3 hundred.

I don't care.......tell your employer to shove his health insurance
You will really show that Obama

Next time you enter an emergency room, tell them you have no intentions of paying

That will really piss off Obama
Exactly! And see how far you get! The first thing they will ask for is your health insurance card. If you tell them you don't have one they may ask why not since the law now requires all people to have health insurance or you can be penalized if you don't. If you still say you don't have any they will present you with the full bill and usually it is HUGE at hospitals. It is not unusual for the bill to be over $1,500.00 or more for a short non-stay hospital visit where nothing really is done to speak of. So, do these people have the money to write a check and pay the hospital when they could simply get health insurance to help take care of it? Well, whatever the case, and I'm not a lawyer, but it is also widely known that if a person doesn't have insurance and claims they do not have any money either to pay for hospital services the hospital has the authority to investigate and check your bank account(s) to see if that is actually true and if it is not true the law allows them to get the money from there to pay for the bill since you have to sign-up for medical services and that is most likely in the contract you sign for those services. But perhaps that is what the posting party prefer happens.

News flash: I WANT a catastrophic care policy! It's ALL I WANT! God and goddess, are you STUPID?!

Just do what the illegal aliens do: give a fake name & walk out on the bill! Say nothing, sign nothing...they MUST treat you anyway!

Those policies have been made illegal.

They are still available, they just don't satisfy the individual mandate, so he'd still have to pay the same fine he has to pay now.
That makes no sense.

Of course it does. One can buy a catastrophic health insurance plan but it doesn't satisfy the requirements of the individual mandate so the shared responsibility tax would still have to be paid.

Here's one example:

Obamacare is the dole.

And look who thinks it's free. Freeloaders. Go figure.

Yeah, that's why all you RWs keep posting about how they have to pay more.

Pick one or the other lie and stick with it.

__ Its Free
__ It Costs More

Not true of course but it IS true that insurance companies scammed millions of people with their junk polices you RWs were in favor of.

What are you whining about anyway?

Its not as though you have to pay for your own health care costs.

Your part is 97,000. Other people are paying 93000 of it.

Do you understand how insurance works?

Obviously, you and the OP do not have a clue

That is a stunningly ignorant thing she wrote and makes no sense to boot.

We've been explaining it for more than 2 years and they don't get it. And they're not gonna get it. Not ever.

As long as Limbaugh et all is telling them what to think, they'll never understand insurance. Nor will they ever understand that "ObamaCare" is not insurance or that its not any kind of product they can buy.

I told my employer i'm not signing up for healthcare.

my employer responded with "you have to, ...you can't do that"

supposedly , my employer called Stalin, or who ever is in charge, and I was told as long as 70% of the company signs up , I won't have to buy health insurance.

I thought I might take the risk of losing my job but it didn't turn out that way.

my plan is to never sign any paperwork relating to healthcare but the future is obvious,

soon you won't be employed unless you're paying for mansions for the health insurance companies.

Why wouldn't you want free healthcare from your employer?

You'd rather have taxpayers pay for you if you get sick?

FYI: Since ACA make insurance companies pay for existing conditions, can't cap benefits, and must use 80% of the premiums collected for benefits, I doubt mansions are forthcoming......but who knows, insurance companies are cash cows!

It's not free, bub.

I'm thinking if all the churches and members gave up on this govt system,
and pooled money together to buy out whole school districts, cities,
business strips and companies (like Medi-Shares or other groups that qualify as exemptions from the health care act)
we could all operate under charitable businesses and schools
and not give any more money or authority to govt to abuse.

Just do things ourselves, like the corporations do.
If these conflicts over govt control cannot be resolved by working it out with
the actual leaders in charge of these political cults,
it just may become a matter of organizing corporate support to bypass
all together using churches and nonprofits and quit relying on govt to manage for us.

If we have to buy out cities and counties to control where our taxes go, so be it.
We can use local currency and not mess with the federal reserve
though the same tax laws apply to sales transactions and income.

If all business expenses are deducted from income, that will reduce the tax burden.
So more management will shift to local representation and away from govt bureaucracy that has no check and balance or due process any more; only political manipulation.

Either the party machines have to be addressed as political religions that do not have the right to impose on govt; or people will find ways to pull out of the system and fund our own religious schools and campuses to take over cities and counties. This is unacceptable.

That a few companies are offering it is not what makes no sense. It is that anyone would buy such insurance and pay the fine as well.

Even though it may well not be illegal, it is pretty much pointless.

Catastrophic Health Insurance Plans - High Deductible Medical Plans

" Catastrophic Health Insurance
Catastrophic health insurance plans are designed to provide an emergency safety net to protect you against unexpected medical costs.

Catastrophic plans are individual and family health insurance plans that emphasize coverage for hospitalization or serious illness. The word "catastrophic" is not always used in the name of the plan - they may also be referred to as hospital-only or short-term plans. Catastrophic plans may not provide coverage for other services such as prescription drugs, regular doctor's visits, immunizations or checkups.

Monthly premiums for catastrophic plans may be lower than those of other health insurance plans but annual deductibles are usually higher. That means you may have to pay for the first $2000-$5000 of medical expenses each year before the insurance company begins to pay for covered services.

If you're relatively healthy, young, or expect to have employer-based health insurance within 6-12 months, a catastrophic plan might be right for you. You'll want to be sure you can pay the deductible in case of emergency, but catastrophic coverage can still provide valuable financial protection in case of emergency.

Catastrophic health insurance plans:
Limit your medical expenses in case of emergency
May offer affordable monthly premiums
Usually have a high annual deductible
May have higher out-of-pocket costs for covered services
Don't always provide coverage for preventive care
A catastrophic plan may be right for you if:
You have no pre-existing medical conditions
You're not on regular prescription drugs
You rarely see the doctor
You can't afford more robust coverage
You expect to have other coverage within 6-12 months
You only want coverage in case of emergency

But I thought you didn't like socialism ...

Your first paragraph ... If you did that, you'd have ObamaCare.

Your last paragraph - by all means, cut off your own nose but insurance companies are now making less because of ACA than they were before.

Fine, they are not illegal.

But they are pretty much irrelevant, as nobody with half a brain is going to pay both for insurance and a fine for not having it.

Apples's profit margin consistently hovers above 20%

The Oil industry typically recieves a profit margin around 6.5%.
But on average, between 2006 and 2010, the largest oil companies averaged a profit margin of around 6.5%.

If I didn't have a wife and kids it's the exact policy I'd buy. It's cheaper as long as I'm healthy but I'm covered for major stuff. Why pay $300 per month for a $4300 deductible if I can pay $120 per month for a $6000 deductible as long as I'm healthy?

someone told you obamacare was going to be free?

Your employer is paying for it. It's free for you. Your employer writes-off 100% of the cost which brings the net cost to 1/3rd of the gross and you have an added benefit from employment. Congrats!!!

For folks that are paying for ACA; If the total premiums are at 9 1/2% or more of your yearly gross, you get a subsidy to pay for the insurance which is far less than paying for indigent care.
