Very true......(I clearly remember GWB making that statement that because there was a "surplus" drastic tax slashes were justified".......What Clinton DID do is to lower the debt to a relatively small amount of $17 billion.......Conversely, not only did Bush lower taxes as he had promised to his handlers, but continued those tax breaks while incurring $3.2 TRILLION in Cheney's war costs..

Perceived taxes are not owned by the federal government, they have no claim to such things.

You don't understand the difference between accrual accounting (GAAP) and cash accounting (the US Treasury). And businesses can't write off losses that aren't losses. The most common write-offs are for losses and equipment purchases carried over from prior years through goodwill, depreciation, amortization, ... But in the end if they're making money, they made it. You think getting your money back for a prior purchase is the same as government just spending money it has to borrow. You just don't know what you're talking about

As you know, there was never a surplus. What appeared to be a surplus was income from Social Security taxes and Medicare.

Obviously, it is your utter desperation which causes you to outright lie about the National Debt. The National Debt was, as you know, $10.6 TRILLION when Lame Duck President Obama took office. When President Obama leaves office it will easily surpass $20 TRILLION. That in addition to an economy, which can best be described as struggling.

I disagree in one respect. I do not consider it a mini-recession. It was the result of the DOT.COM bust which was staggering. We had not fully recovered from that recession and we had President Clinton caused an act of war on 9/11/2001. An attack which cost the United States a minimum of $2 TRILLION plus all the cost worldwide. Not an easy task.

President Bush was ridiculed for answering when asked, what could the citizens do, and he responded, go shopping. That was 100% accurate and what the country needed to keep the economy from collapsing. The tax cuts helped rescue the economy.

How have those massive tax increases from Lame Duck President Obama and the Democratss worked out?
