CDZ I can't stand this anti-trade bullshit

The tech sector has benefitted from globalism, but only because it's taken a while for other countries to catch up and develop their own industries.

China allows us to sell cars in China, but only if we build them there. They don't allow their citizens to invest in our stock market, but happily allow us to invest in theirs. The free trade is completely one sided

Fuck you for wanting the US to be a nation of food servers.
You do realize that there are scads of service jobs that pay very comfortable livings, don't you?
Really?
Name some.
And specify what you consider to be a comfortable living and in what cities.
Auto tech
Nursing
HVAC tech
Physical therapy
IT
Accountant
Insurance
Real estate

There are innumerable others.

It seems by your list that virtually every field is a service field.
Forget about IT; that's 99% Indian Business Visas.

PT is service?
My daughter's going for PT and has to attend Medical School for a year in her program.

Real Estate is very good during a Bubble but you have to be smart and invest your gains.

You consider Accounting to be a service?
I know many Accountants and some are WAY better than others.

But thats how it works...
And how it worked all throughout history...

You have to have the technological edge to survive as a dominant economic power house, and provide prosperity to your people as a result, like US did for the last 100 years before it was not sustainable anymore.

As you said, the main problem is that the technology gap between US and other countries closing.

So what to do in this case?

You either go to the direction of protectionism...
Or you step the gas pedal and try your best to advance your tech even further...

You asked to have some named and I did so.

Fact remains that there are numerous well paying jobs in the service sector. Deal with it.

The Technology gap is not closing and that's why India is shitting in it's pants over Trump's victory.
If we didn't use Indian Business Visas we would be years ahead of where we are but Apple using the best rather the cheapest is why they are kicking every other tech company to the curb.

And we need people to be able to afford these services.
Notice everything Health Care going to hell because employees used to get it as a perk.
Insurance is owned by huge corporations.
HVAC is a result of legislation.
etc...

Don't give me your whiny crap. Numerous great paying jobs in the service sector exist.

We need to have manufacturing jobs in the United States.

Independent manafacturing is reliant on cheap raw materials from foreign countries.

The majority of American jobs are not manfacturing, and are supported by trade. You will cost millions of jobs to save a hundred thousand minimum wage factory positions.

Fair trade is the goal and China does not practice it.

Fair trade sounds like something that was concocted in a Democrat think tank to put an appealing spin on socialism (which this is).

Your unfounded desire to equalize trade decifits serves no positive ends, except raising prices, limiting growth, and destroying jobs.

We can bring manufacturing back. We need to . We need diversity in the economy. We could stand to open up a few more steel mills so we don't have to import quite as much. Maybe we can even export some more. How does that sound?

You're right.
Now all we need is manufacturing as a tax and employment base.
You can't build 50,000 homes around the professions you listed; it just doesn't work.

Beyond the boost it would give to domestic production , I see tariffs as having two possible benefits.

1. Tariffs are a a revenue source which doesn't come out of American pockets. Essentially they're a tax on foreigners. Tariffs would be politically benign if it weren't for the fact that we get our news from multi-national corporations which would campaign against them.

2. Tariffs can be a bargaining chip. Like hey, we slapped a tariff on you but we'll remove it if you remove your tariffs on us.

Sounds like you've signed up for a ten-year fight with the EPA and various state and local enviro-moonbat groups.

Tariffs are worthless. Read some history.

The industrial age is all but over. So is the work-a-day factory job. Get over it.

The money is in information and services. Adapt or die.

We can still build and manufacture things here. Why is it fair to let other countries deal with polluting the earth when we will do a better job containing the pollution, say a country like China.

Information and Services can NOT sustain a Municipality.
And that's why Housing Bubbles, such as the current bubble, are a guarantee.

I DO wonder why China is freaking out if factories are dead.
Someone in China knows something you don't know.

Anyone who is against bringing factories back is living off their Investments.

Agreed. I spent a lot of years working in a screw machine shop, a CNC machine shop and then doing metal fab. I've really seen up close how many spin off jobs this type of work creates. These people have no idea what they are trying to continue to kill off. It would also provide so much more work to people in inner cities and other immigrants who dont mind getting oily or dirty.
