CDZ I can't stand this anti-trade bullshit

And from YOU?
NO DEBATE.

You haven't taken part in ANYONE'S debate until now; why change?

China's steel industry is not profitable. It merely keeps people busy.
Can China's Steel Industry Raise Profit Margins?

I cited German subsidies because they are an example of protectionism preserving a domestic industry, even if I don't agree with that specific brand of protectionism.

The Great Depression was caused primarily by deflation. For the sake of brevity I'll focus on the farming sector. Suddenly you had millions of farmers overproducing goods and utilizing a modern rail system to carry them to Chicago and NYC which basically led to too much of a good thing. Mechanization led to cheaper farm equipment. Modern farming practices led to higher yields. Prices plummeted and so did real estate and stock prices in that wake.
If the Hail Mary pass which were price controls failed to fix the underlying problem, that's not a very compelling indictment of protectionism.

This is the height of human stupidity. The people that were supposed to be against socialism are now rallying for less free trade and government price control, just because demigod Donald told them so.

These cultists do not understand the first thing about economics, but now they have strong opinions because their political master voiced some dumbass uneducated opinions; Uneducated opinions that suspiciously would hurt competitors to the Trump Organization.

I knew the human race had went insane, but now the tools are weighing in on intellectual subjects like economics? They just elected a socialist administration, so clearly we have learned nothing.

Were you not aware that Canada and Mexico are unhappy with NAFTA as well?

...furthermore, the example of the Great Depression isn't even applicable today. Gigantic ocean vessels carrying mountains of cargo containers didn't exist. Amazon.com didn't exist. Neither did multi-nationally chain stores like Walmart putting local independent merchants out of business. Neither did fiat currency and fractional reserve banking. It's sort of like using the example of the Donner Party to show that it's super dangerous to cross the Sierra in winter.

They are indeed. The game of politics is riddled in empty words.

Plus, if they were unhappy, it would not fit Trumps rhetorical message that they are screwing us over.

Plenty more examples.

Steel tariffs under George Bush.

All this discussion is for a lost cause.
Next decade will be the golden age of the ai.
They will take over industry after another.
And then, none of this will make any sense.

Rise of the robots: 60,000 workers culled from just one factory(foxconn) as China’s struggling electronics hub turns to artificial intelligence

Former McDonald's chief executive Ed Rensi recently told the US's Fox Business programme a minimum-wage increase to $15 an hour would make companies consider robot workers.

"It's cheaper to buy a $35,000 robotic arm than it is to hire an employee who is inefficient, making $15 an hour bagging French fries," he said.

Amen!

The simple economic truth you free traders don't seem to understand is that an American company providing jobs in the US cannot compete with a Chinese company hiring Chinese workers for the simple reason it costs a lot more to be an American than a Chinese.

Think of it this way: you know how when you drive down the highway and come to a construction site there is a person in an orange vest standing there with a "slow" sign? Somebody has to pay for that person. That's all of us. In China, they don't have that person, so the Chinese worker doesn't have to include that cost in his salary. Now arguably the orange vest guy improves the quality of life in America by making it safer. That makes the US a more desirable place to live than China, evidence for which we see in the flood of Chinese immigrating every year. But the bottom line is, the orange vest guy and millions of similar costs add up to make it more expensive to live here than there. That's why free trade is a disaster (as befell the textile industry in NC) for the people thrown into direct competition with cheaper foreign labor. There needs to be tariffs.

I concluded that Donald Trump is either a certified idiot on the subject of economics, or he is personally benefiting from tariffs in some way.

So I did some investigating, and found that some of his business competitors rely heavily on foreign trade, particularly Mexico and China. That signifies to me that he is intentionally fucking over America to serve his special interests.

So you think Trump ran for president so he could raise tariffs so it would hurt his competitors and allow him to make more money. And you call Trump supporters the idiots?

That's not the only reason he ran, but yes.

How does a free nation compete with nations whom engage in slave labor?
Please explain?

How does a free nation compete with nations whom engage in slave labor?

Okay, if you justify your premise that somehow nations need to be in competition with each other.

Oh, and also explain how voluntarily agreeing to work at a low wage job is the same as slave labor.

They seem to think free trade means we are free to do what we like but everyone else has to have tariffs and trade restrictions on them so we make more money. As if other countries aren't going to go 'oh, ok that is the new game we're playing, alright here are the tariffs and restrictions on your goods'.

The Republicans are just braindead regarding economics.

Answer the question please, "How does a free nation compete with nations whom engage in slave labor?"
Or is it to be assumed that all nations must engage in slave labor in your premise?
