I am especially pleased to be here

On a message board full of neocon Bushbot loyalists, rubbing your Republican noses in the truth about your corrupt, greedy, bigoted, racist, Grand Old Party of hypocrisy. I look forward to the coming weeks as you get to read my posts reminding you of the last three decades of your love affair with the Reaganomics ponzi scheme and the financial collapse it has caused.
Your heroes Bush, Cheney, and their friends in the Republican controlled Congress during that administration screwed a full 98% of the American population, and you cheered them on. Out of the last thirty two years Democrats have raised the national debt a mere $1.7 trillion dollars, while the fiscal conservatives (that's you Republicans) have pumped it up by over $7.7 trillion dollars. WOW! Aren't you guys proud of that? In case you want to dispute those numbers, the proof is available on line. The fact that Dubya and Dick cooked the books and their true contribution to that debt has been under reported should make you feel even warmer inside. Enjoy.

It's not quite a fair comparison, because they had different starting places.

Reagan inhereted a $72B deficit, and left Bush1 a $194B deficit.

Bush1 took that and left Clinton a $340B deficit.

Clinton inherited that, and left Bush2 a $87B surplus.

Bush2 took that surplus and left Obama a $638B deficit (in a year the Govt actually borrowed over $1 trillion).

Clinton was the only one who improved the budget he was give, and reversed the deficit policies he inhereted from a Republican, leaving his successor the rare gift of a surplus.

So if we want to be fair about it, just call it the "Republican debt". That's a fairly accurate description of what it is.
Except, according to the CBO the Clinton "surplus" never existed. In fact, by 1999 there was a budget deficit of over a billion already.

Clinton's low deficit was due mostly to legislation which the Supreme Court ruled unconstitutional. Little picky things the GOP Congress gave him, like line-item veto, Gramm-Rudman, Paygo....

Idiots who give way too much credit to a POTUS when things go right are only slightly out done by the idiocy of those who give way too much criticism when they don't -- and who conveniently forget it's CONGRESS who has the real purse-string power. The POTUS really has very little power and even less control.

Interesting history of the Clinton budget surplus and how it got there can be found here. It's simple reading, not too heavy on the statistics except in charts.

Budgeting during the Clinton Presidency

What's REALLY interesting is that Clinton employed many of the devices Obama is using which, during the first term, no Republican voted for. The similarities are intriguing, although the financial crisis Obama faces is far, far worse.

All the while Obama will be doubling the National Debt. WOW! Aren't you guys proud of that? In case you want to dispute those numbers, the proof is available on line here:
.

Bush doubled the national debt in eight years. Of the ten plus trillion in debt, Reagan, Bush 1 and Dubya are responsible for over eight trillion.

When a conservative talks about money, why is there not hysterical laughter?

There isn't? Really? Am I hearing things then?
