Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli is filing a lawsuit that seeks to block implementation of the federal health care reform law. Meanwhile, when given the "public option" to insure his family through the state health insurance program, The Cooch chose to do so instead of insuring his family through his law firm. Why would he do this? The General Assembly program allows members to enroll their families for $105 per month- or $1,260 per year. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, these benefits would cost about $13,375 for a family policy on the open market. That's the average family of course- The Cooch would have an even more expensive policy with his seven children. In other words, The Cooch saved about $100,000 over his eight years in the Virginia Senate by enrolling in the voluntary state health insurance program- which he wouldn't even be eligible for with his work hours if the General Assembly hadn't carved out an exception for itself!

So the Couch is trying to deny Virginians the kind of health coverage he himself has.

Aren't Republicans wonderful?

Misleading.

He is not trying to block healthcare reform
He is doing his job as a state AG to question the validity of the federal government mandating citizens of his state to purchase a product from private industry.

If you really cared about what is right, you should question why all 50 state AG's are not doing the same.

Afterall, we, as state citizens can only count on THEM to ensure our rights and liberties are protected.

Or are you one of those fools that believes the end justifies the means?

If so...wouldnt it be wise for the federal government to give an alcohol check on every individual that leaves a bar to ensure that no innocent person is killed by a drunk driver?

Sure, it will cost us trillions....and sure it is an invasion of privacy....but the end justifies the means....

In other Virginia news, the state faces a $2BILLION shortfall in it's budget and both Republican AG Cuccinelli and Republican Governor Bob McDonnell who ran on being fiscally conservative, feel it is wise to spend more state dollars on this lawsuit. Dollars, the state obviously does not have.

And I have absolutely no problem with that. Lawsuits such as these are reasons we pay our taxes to support the AG's office.

NYS is in deep financial doggie doo as well...and I am appalled that our AG is not questioning the legality of a federal mandate that is unprecedented.....and.....questionable from a constitutionlity standpoint.

It is their job, you know.

As opposed to spending many more on the increase to medicaid costs and loss of dollars from medicare.

Since McDonnell is clearly against Socialism and FOR state's rights, he should be MORE than happy to get Federal Socialist programs such as MediCare out of our great state. Right?

Interesting....so you believe it is warranted to spend the money to fight something that is already implemented and proven to be constitutional, but it is NOT warranted to fight something that is not yet implemented and not yet proven to be constitutional.

And I am in error...I used the word fight....it is not a fight....it is more of a question...he is taking action to question and determione the constitutionality of a federal mandate that was imposed on the people of his state.

That is a major part of his job descritption. You should applaud his efforts....and IF it is proven to be constitutional, then all is good...and if it is not, then you should thank him for questioning it.

Again....the State AG has the responsibility to ensure all federal laws that are imposed on his state residents are in line with the constitution.

Would you prefer he cherry pick?

I am NOT second guessing whether or not you (them, whoever) believe these lawsuits have merit. All I am saying is that anyone who will speak truthfully knows these lawsuits are nothing more than propaganda and will fail.

Personally? I would prefer he, and ALL of the other politicians in our state figure out a way to fix all of the GD pot holes in our state roads so I do not have to pay for front end alignments every few months.

Please explain to me how questioning a federal mandate levied on a state resident to purchase something agianst their will from a private company is propoganda.

VaY...dont try...you cant. The question has merit. For the federal government force this into a court of law is its choice.....or maybe the federal government will be fair enough to show precedent for the mandate and save the taxpayer money.

It is not propoganda. You choose to be a follower and simply say "sounds good to me"....but there is no precedent fopr the mandate, so any AG should question it.

Now, that being said....and as you know....I am all for the mandate as it is the only possible way for us to acheive insurance for those with pre-existing conditions.
But I am also one that believes that something that has constitutionaliuty questions SHOULDF ALWAYS BE QUESTIONED.

Bear in mind...will you be hapopy if THIS mandate...say 10 years from now....is used as a precedent to allow a federal law that mandates you buy ONLY Chinese made products?

We need to keep things in check....for future attempts to side step our rights.

lost a 3 month old tire to a pothole two weeks ago.

The guy that sold me the new tire told me I should raise hell with the town it happened in.

My response? I am the one who drove into a pothole....I am the one responsible.

But that is me.

And as you know, I am for this mandate as well. The reason I question the intentions of my AG and Governor is because I do not recall ANY state AG filing lawsuits whe Bush implemented his wire tapping and called it the Patriot Act.

I appreciate your personal responsibility response...however, I challenge you to drive on I-64 east of Richmond and NOT hit a pot hole, regardless of how responsible you are.

Exactly when did I give you permission to use that photo of my wiofe as your avatar?

And our Cross Bornx Expressway has a history of potholes popping up out of the blue every couple of yards.

So I leave myself extra time when I need to use it and take the longer route....the Hutchinson River Parkway so I do not need to worry about it.

Yes, I know...Im a little off beat...but I am a true believer in personal responsibility...and it has worked well for me. Never sued anyone and never believed I needed to.

But then again, I rarely get angry at other people.

And when I do? I blame myself for putting myself in that position. Like yesterday.....Dr. Smith angered me on here...and I saw it coming on....so I logged off as it was not in my best intererst to allow myself to get angry.

But, again, that is me.

As for your AG...I understand why you see it as hypocritical...NMy AG was all upo in arms over the tapping thing....and he is silent on THIS mandate....

Seems both of us have an issue with our politicians....not with each other.

I think they prefer to make it between us.
