The job of POTUS is surely not easy. That said, it need not be as hard as Trump is making it on himself. An individual of irreproachable integrity, notably above average intellect and intellectual curiosity, basic knowledge [1] in several disciplines -- science, culture (history, psychology, sociology, anthropology), economics and business, and jurisprudence) -- impeccably adroit communication skills, strong problem solving and leadership skills, and a decent amount of political insouciance would, I suspect, find the job to be demanding and ponderously time consuming more so than difficult.

Unfortunately, Trump has at best a mediocre facility with one of those skills. The result is that his presidency is hard on him and us.

"Basic knowledge" is that quantity of subject matter knowledge whereby when one sees/hears something, one knows enough to know whether the "thing" is highly plausible and probable, merely plausible and possible, unlikely, or somewhere in between. Having that degree of knowledge along with irreproachable integrity and a relatively high intellect, one in unison applies those traits and efficiently and effectively bothers to find out whether one's perceptions indeed align with reality.
