Or at least lower the number of casualties when they occur.

Background checks and other weak controls won't stop criminals or any one with nefarious purposes from getting guns. Just using the murder rates in Chicago as an example, it is easy to see that gangsters know how to get guns. Gun controls don't affect them at alll. So, why limit the rights of law abiding citizens and make them more vulnerable to criminals with guns? why not just legislate in the opposite direction and make the following items law?



1. No more Gun Free Zones.



2. Arm and train teachers and guards at schools.



3. Form armed parent coalition volunteers to ride on school busses.



4. Armed Master of arms at churches (CCW)



5. Allow recruiters to bear arms in shopping malls.

Under the present system of laws and guidelines I think responsible citizens can fulfill these tasks and make a difference!

Ever since the first restrictive gun law was passed in 1927, which banned the mailing of concealable weapons (as if that couldn't and wouldn't be circumvented), the concept of gun control, which occurs in direct and brazen opposition to the spirit and intent of the Second Amendment, has proven to be an effective device by which political opportunists can get their names before the public. So every time a prominent shooting breaks into the news there is a rush to recommend another step toward infringement on the citizens' right to be armed.

Right now the political opportunists are focused on the so-called gun-show "loophole," which permits a private individual to sell a firearm without checking the background of the buyer. If the gun-control advocates manage to eliminate this ability they will then focus on something else, then something else -- until the citizen's right to keep and bear arms will be limited to keeping one single-shot .22 rifle, chambered for short, and bearing it only to a federally supervised shooting range in a locked case. Ammunition will be restricted to purchase at a federally supervised range and must be expended there.

Little by little. Step by step. The right to keep and bear arms will not be infringed but the American citizen will be effectively disarmed.
