David Horowitz Explains How Progressives Lost in the 1960s, Yet Still Found a Way to Transform America

What can a former high-level progressive and founder of the New Left expose about American politics today? According to David Horowitz, a lot.

In his newest book, “The Black Book of the American Left,” Horowitz explains how the communists of the 1960s were unable to transform America because they were too honest about their intentions.

At a Heritage event this week, Horowitz said the battle cry of the 1960s was, “We want a revolution, and we want it now.”

“That’s what we said, and that was actually very decent of us because it warned people of what we were about,” he said. “That’s one big reason why the ’60s failed in the ’60s and [why it] has succeeded in the last decade in taking power in this country.”

Horowitz argued that Obamacare is one example of the long-term progressive plot to transform *America. “You say you want to cover health insurance. The true agenda is to create … a single-payer [system].”

“These are very, very dark days for this country,” Horowitz said. Yet, he concluded with a touch of optimism: “There’s been an earthquake on the conservative side since I switched sides … the Tea Party is the earthquake.”

Horowitz is the president of the David Horowitz Freedom Center and founder of the online news magazine Frontpage Mag. He’s the author of numerous books.

Heritage hosted Horowitz on November 12. His speech and question-and-answer session run about 70 minutes.

When the democrat party embraced communism and socialism and the mainstream media became the propaganda arm of the progressive movement and the education system did more to dumb down students into accepting fascism the result was inevitable. The question is whether the once greatest Country in the world can survive Barry Hussein.

Good thinking Americans won in the 1960s and 1970s, and bad thinking Americans today want us to go back to the 1950s.

Not going to happen. The younger generations flatly won't permit it, and the older generations are dying off more quickly each day.

Then you will be the ones foolish enough to have given away your birthright of freedom and Constitutional protections that keep the Govt. your devoted servant and have instead let it become your master.

And your subjection will be permanent.

For all time.

Until the end of the Republic.

You will never get it back.

And if you lose it you won't deserve to get it back again.

You've been warned.

Single payor will make us slaves to the system and communist/socialists. Really. No hyperbole here.

Actually, i'm not a fan, and Krugman does argue in conscience of a liberal that single payor would, in effect, force a pay raise when unions are no longer viable political forces ...... but I really don't see the 1% being dragged down to economic equality with the bottom 1% if we have some form of capital sponsored tax benefits for workers to have health insurance.

Absolutely right!

Just imagine you are a home owner and you needed the services of a gardener, a pool guy, an attorney, an accountant. You have an ADT security contract, a guy to call if you need home theater/IT advice and on-site servicing and a family Doctor.

Now imagine the attorney organized all of the other professionals into a group, or a GANG.

And that gang no longer wants to be your employees.

They want to be your boss.

And some people think this is acceptable.

THAT is what President Barack Obama is doing to us and that is the CHANGE he had in mind but we couldn't have imagined. He has orchestrated a change in the relationship between WE THE PEOPLE and the Government we employ and elect. He intends to make us all subjects of the Government he would head.

And that is why he is so committed to Obamacare. It permits him to gain control over us. He is lying and manipulating and digging his heels in to create and defend and preserve that eventuality.

And roughly half of America can't see it.

Yet.

But the tide is turning.

What are his poll numbers?

[ TITLE: 11pm, JULY 25th 1967 ]

PRESIDENT LYNDON B. JOHNSON: Law and order have broken down in Detroit, Michigan. Pillage, looting, murder…

VO: Only a few years before, President Johnson had promised policies that would create a new and a better world in America. He had called it “the Great Society.”

[ TITLE: President LYNDON JOHNSON, 1964 ]

JOHNSON: The Great Society is in place where every child can find knowledge to enrich his mind. It is a place where the City of Man…

VO: But now, in the wake of some of the worst riots ever seen in America, that dream seemed to have ended in violence and hatred. One prominent liberal journalist called Irving Kristol began to question whether it might actually be the policies themselves that were causing social breakdown.

IRVING KRISTOL: If you had asked any liberal in 1960, we are going to pass these laws, these laws, these laws, and these laws, mentioning all the laws that in fact were passed in the 1960s and ‘70s, would you say crime will go up, drug addiction will go up, illegitimacy will go up, or will they get down? Obviously, everyone would have said, they will get down. And everyone would have been wrong. Now, that’s not something that the liberals have been able to face up to. They’ve had their reforms, and they have led to consequences that they did not expect and they don’t know what to do about.

It's not complicated. Liberals won because they were on the side of common sense good morality. The conservatives media and courts tried hard and still try to stop it, but didn't succeed.

And here we have the conservatives, crying how awful it is that those darn liberals fought racism and those other fine upstanding traditions. I wish them luck with that tactic, and with their embrace of a guy like Horowitz. He was a self-admitted brainless cultist in his youth, and hasn't changed mindset any, just his cults.

He asks a question maybe you can answer:

"What freedom do we have if the State controls our health?"
