He personally said that Mexico would pay for his wall. He also said that he owns the shutdown. The shutdown also began when Pelosi was not yet speaker, and republicans were in control of the House.

He needs to reopen the government before more people get hurt. Then he can negotiate with Congress over border security funding, including the wall that he wants.

He tried that with the last budget he signed. When it didn't include a dime for the wall, the headline at the Huffington post read:

He has already relented. See the word "another" in the headline? It means he has relented more than once.

But the fastest growing counties are all around Washington D.C. in Maryland and Virginia. Imperial Progressive Socialist Rome exists now. Americans pay the lowest rate of taxes in the first world, and have no problem borrowing for the most expensive army in the world, or to fight in foreign wars for 18 years, but spending money on American government workers whose incomes are being spent in the USA, creating jobs and incomes for those who provide them with goods and services is anathema to them.

American spent 2 trillion on the Iraq war, blowing shit up in another country. Another $500 billion is owed in benefits to veterans of that war. That money benefitted no one. It was spent on bombs missiles and gave rise to ISIS.

From my understanding, the House did pass wall funding. The senate needed about 10 Democrats to vote to fund the wall to get to the 60 votes needed to pass it.

They couldn't even find 10 Democrats willing to protect America.
