I'm assuming you're not a Christian? No where does Jesus condemn slavery.
Ephesians 6:5 NLT
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ.
1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT (Jesus talking to Timothy)
Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them.
Luke 12:47-48 NLT (Jesus speaking)
The servant will be severely punished, for though he knew his duty, he refused to do it. "But people who are not aware that they are doing wrong will be punished only lightly. Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given."

There was no "welfare" in Biblical times. If you could not care for yourself or your family, you could sell yourself or your family into slavery. It was done, frequently. With Rome, the government raised the taxes so much that even the "wealthy" could not pay. The punishment for not paying taxes: the "government" sold them into slavery.
I asked where slavery was "promoted", you did an avoid. What Confederates? Muslims, and some of the other religions in the east still have slaves, yet no condemnation from those that want to isolate Christians (that can argueably be held responsible for the modern age), and make them the evil ones.
Please, read the Bible. Yeshua did not encourage anyone to revolt (including slaves). Yeshua taught them how to be better people and thru that improve the lives of those around them, and their communities, and their area, and their countries, and so on and so on....

Sorry, you can't have it both ways. You are for it or against it. Choose.
Hint: "For it" is "promoting it".

I think it fairly apparent that the GOD described in the Old Testament and the GOD described in the New Testament are significantly different GODS.
One is described as a jealous god of vengence and the other described as a loving forgiving GOD.
"Wish you would ask the muslims, buddahists, and hindus that question. There are not many known slaveholders that are Christian today. Yesterday, that was the accepted practice."Wish you would ask the muslims, buddahists, and hindus that question. There are not many known slaveholders that are Christian today. In THIS country...Christian slaves were held by Christian owners
How could you treat another member of your faith that way and still consider yourself to be a Christian?
