Agreed, trying to actually prevent another war in the middle east is a noble quest that must be attempted, the fatalistic warhawks that treat an Iranian war as an inevitability need to STFU for a while and see how this pans out before they freak out. At this point it seems to me they are mostly angry at the thought that they might not get to destroy Iran and fight another glorious patriotic war. Also this letter might as well be a stern reminder that the sun will rise in the east tomorrow morning.

Who said anything about war with Iran?
Iran wants nuclear weapons. That is a threat to our national security as well as a destabilizing element in the Middle East..
Obama is capitulating, taking the Neville Chamberlain route.

No. Are you guys really that dense? It's NOT changing the tune. A letter to the president is the appropriate way to handle it. A letter to Iran makes them look like amateurish newbies without a clue.

This is how it is supposed to be done.
