House passes bill banning abortions after 20 weeks, President Trump has promised to sign it

From the article:

"The bill, however, is likely to be defeated in the Senate, as it needs 60 votes for passage but Republicans hold only 52 seats. A similar piece of legislation met the same fate in 2015."

Thank goodness. We need to focus our efforts on protecting and securing stable futures for persons already born before we worry about individuals who are not born.

Whose job is it to protect a fetus? The pregnant woman to whom it belongs. Period.

Wow

You know, for the life of me, I don't know why
I'm still able to be flabbergasted by some of the shit I read!

It would be nice if we could manage to get on the same level,
but I'll never get that low and you'll never get this high.

Look, this is about acting responsibly
vs irresponsibly because you have any easy way out

It's bad enough to go spreading your legs willy nilly
and killing as a form of birth control but,
there's no reason it should take any bitch
22 weeks to do what she already knows she's going to do....
PERIOD!

Abortion isnt an easy way out. I have no idea what makes you think that.

It is telling to note the sheer level of vitriol and misconception directed at woman who get an abortions.

They are promiscuous. Spread their legs willy nilly, use abortion as birthcontrol.

Since all the vitiole is aimed at HER thank goodness the decision is HERS and not his. HE is certainly not being accused of porking everything that moves and making babies. But that is the way it hads akways been. Men can enjoy sex but how dare the woman?

Reality is that abortion is too expensive to be used as birth control and it is not an easy decision to make. Many lower income women struggle to come up with the money in time.

You asked me that question, based on the assumption,
I'm presuming, abortion is an easy way out,
because I haven't walked a mile in those shoes.

Right?
I mean, after all, unless you've walked a mile
in someone else's shoes, you don't really know...

Sure, it's easy for someone to pass judgment
but, unless you've been in that situation, you don't know

abortion
abusive relationships
addiction
gambling
pornography
mental illness
disabilities
illegal immigrants
depression

Well, my statement was not presumptuous,
it comes from walking a mile in those shoes.
It comes from my own unwanted pregnancy
and not wanting the responsibility of my choices,....
just an easy way out of the consequences.

So, yes, been there, done that darling

It's easy to choose abortion
when you buy into the propaganda
that it's just a blob, it's not a baby,
it's my body, my choice....

but, when you allow God and Jesus
into your heart and into your life,
it's not a decision that is easy to forgive yourself for

The overwhelming majority of unwanted pregnancies
are the result of irresponsibility and promiscuity

The overwhelming majority of abortions
are the result of selfishness, being an easy way out!

Wow....you're good with the "talking points." I give you that. You've got moral relativism down pat too.

Maybe your unwanted pregnancy was the result of "irresponsibility and promiscuity." Maybe it wasn't. Either way, insofar as you couldn't bring yourself to have an abortion, I would have thought you'd be very aware of how hard a choice it is to make, because it was clearly an option that was too difficult for you to choose it. Why could not is beside the point. The fact remains you hadn't the fortitude to choose it.

It's not that I don't comprehend what you wrote. It's that you don't comprehend any reality or normative perspective other than the one having your approbation. The veracity of my assertion is shown in your own response to the assertion that abortion is not the easy way out:
It isn't? I have no idea what makes you think it's not
The fact of the matter is that regardless of how much and in what ways you describe how you see abortion as being an easy way out, they are all just your ways of seeing the matter as the so-called "easy way out," and as such demonstrate no comprehension of how the decision to have an abortion is not an "easy way out."

I wrote that you're good with the "talking points" because I saw the key one in your post.
It's easy to choose abortion when you buy into the propaganda that it's just a blob, it's not a baby, it's my body, my choice....
The fact is there is no propaganda that declares the fetus in a woman's uterus is a "blob," but I say that because I've never seen anything saying a a fetus is a "blob." By all means, however, if you've seen pro-choice literature describing a fetus as a "blob," please do share; however, absent your doing so, one must accept the factual truth that what is in a woman's uterus is a fetus, not a baby. When it's born, it'll be a baby, but until then, it's a fetus, which is neither "blob" nor baby.

And despite what you may think, everyone is well aware that a fetus has the potential to be a baby, but until a fetus becomes a baby, it is property not person. If a given mother or pair of parents cares to increase the status of their own fetus to that of baby, that's a personal normative action on their part.

As for what's "easy" and not about abortion and its aftermath, a given economic/financial position of the mother/would-be parents who chose to abort a pregnancy may be easier to attain or maintain than had she/they not done so. Is the decision to abort the pregnancy an easy one? No. Is the emotional "baggage" that accompanies having aborted the pregnancy easy to bear? I doubt it.

This is the crux of our ideological inability to communicate with each other today.

Most people dont seem to be aware any more that their personal life experiences and beliefs color what they see and experience.

To really communicate one has to understand the others perspective as much as possible and try to empathize with their life experiences.

Trying to figure out how to precipitate more of that today....not really having a lot of success.

Well, step one in achieving that is having a clear and soundly developed set of principles that do not conflict with one another and then exhibiting the integrity of sticking to them. Of course, to do that one must also be mature enough to accept that no set of compatible principles is 100% free of distasteful consequences.

I think some other steps in achieving the objective you note are:
  • discarding the "winners and losers" mentality when it comes to political matters
  • refusing to allow to be made political matters that really are not political

Yeah, I think I have that down, in my head, but I am trying to come up with a set of buzz words that are immediately recognizable for what I intend to convey.

So far I have come up with 'FDR Liberalism', 'Patriotic Centrism', and 'Pragmatic Progressive'.

None of these are exactly what I want, but seem workable, though they do fit what I am thinking. They just dont roll off the tongue.

I will keep my response short and to the point.

I have walked in those shoes.

It is not an easy decision nor an easy process.

Don't you dare speak for others just because you faced the same decision and made a different choice. Don't assume another choice was any easier.

Don't you dare speak for others just because you faced the same decision and made a different choice. Don't assume another choice was any easier.
If some are not allowed to speak on an issue, how do we come to consensus? How do we learn to respect each others point of view if we accept the idea that some points of view are inherently unjustifiable simply because of who they are?

I'm not saying she can't speak...I'm saying she has no right to speak for others who may have made a different choice and claim it is somehow EASY.

You know what? It isn't.

But everyone who opposes it seems to think it is. IT IS THE HARDEST DECISION A WOMAN EVER MAKES IN HER LIFE.
