Here is a non-partisan assessment on Obama's campaign promises

Candidates promise to try to do things.

They often fail.

yes you want a leader who "trys"

They ALL (including Obama) promise to be "tough on China", but then they get elected and reality must be added to their rhetoric.

Often times a promise made on the campaign trail simply cannot be kept, and the maker of the promise is simply too naive to know better, especially if they've never held the office they seek. Every incumbent should be held to a higher standard on re-election promises.

Self-regulation is a slow process that only works to an extent. Unfortunately, many things corporations do fall through the cracks. Consumers can't be aware of everything.

And politicians are even less aware of whats going on and you think they can take care of me better than I can?

AS far as certain industries go, yes. We NEED gov programs like the EPA, FDA, and FAA.

Everyone likes clear and simple guidelines. This is where our government is failing us in the regulation department.

The answer is not 'no regulation', the answer is 'appropriate regulation', written in plain language and administered without favoritism.

The only true regulation works through the consumer's wallet. Don't buy it they want sell it. but your opinion is so cloudy with democrat talking points why bother?

What you need is the freedom to take care of yourself AND a framework for maintaining the professional and personal relationships that 'taking care of yourself' requires in 21st Century America.

Without a government there to enforce a contract, it matters not how clever you were when negotiating it.

Consumer purchasing votes will do NOTHING to regulate a polluting industrial site that sells it's goods in a different neighborhood.

The best mechanism for regulation is require every business with a smoke-stack to have a manager with authority who is raising his or her family in the shadow of the plant.

It works if that industry does not have access to your wallet.

I don't disagree that we do.

But the problem with a lot of these agencies is that they've forgotten what their purpose was. So you have a bloated USDA which has one bureaucrat for every seven farmers. or an OSHA that spends most of its time collecting fines for not filling out paperwork properly.

Yeah, there's a little corruption in everything, including Big Business.

#435 - criminal penalties for mortgage fraud.

Would that be creating a debtor's prison situation, more or less?

Let me put it in perspective for, y'all.

Obama promises KEPT: 120

Obama promises BROKEN: 53

When promises kept includes things akin to "I promise not to scratch my ass in public", it's no wonder he's ahead.

But since we are lauding his actions...how's that Hope And Change working out for you.

Have you looked at his approval ratings lately ?

Maybe you should tatoo this list on your ass and drive up and down mainstreet mooning everyone so they can read it.

Oh, you forgot;

Murdered a US citizen w/o a trial.

Was that a promise ?

Somebody needs to tell that loser Chris that President Obama's approval ratings have started to turn back down.

Poor Chris....he will need more Prozac.

Now, he can be like he rest of us who need anti-depressants just because of our Federal Government.

One note: fulfilled campaign promises are not the same as accomplishments. For example, killing UBL was not a promise, but it was an accomplishment.

A few people have raised objections to accomplishments of the following forms:

1: Accomplishment was unoriginal

Response: Just because someone proposed doing something in the past doesn't mean doing it isn't an accomplishment

2: Accomplishment was minor

Response: Some accomplishments are certainly much more significant than others. Still, I'll wager that none of us who have posted in this thread have a single accomplishment that changes the world more than the least of Obama's listed by Politifact

3: Accomplishment increased deficit

Response: Most Presidential actions require funds. That doesn't mean they aren't accomplishments. The fact that something costs money doesn't mean it isn't worth doing.

4: Accomplishment was not in fact achieved

Response: You're going to have to explain where Politifact erred. Their methodology takes some getting used to, but I don't think they have any blatant mistakes.

5: Accomplishment rewarded a narrow constituency

Response: Sometimes problems arise in this country which affect primarily a small part of it. There is nothing corrupt or worthless about government action to address such problems. For example, one "in the works" promise concerns the funding of autism treatment, which is of course useful to only a discrete slice of the country. This is nevertheless a potentially important act.
