As the largest industry in 2006, health care provided 14 million jobs—13.6 million jobs for wage and salary workers and about 438,000 jobs for the self-employed.
7 of the 20 fastest growing occupations are health care related.
Health care will generate 3 million new wage and salary jobs between 2006 and 2016, more than any other industry.
Most workers have jobs that require less than 4 years of college education, but health diagnosing and treating practitioners are among the most educated workers

Health Care

The insurance industry had about 2.3 million wage and salary jobs in 2006. Insurance carriers accounted for 62 percent of jobs, while insurance agencies, brokerages, and providers of other insurance-related services accounted for 38 percent of jobs.

The majority of establishments in the insurance industry were small; however, a few large establishments accounted for many of the jobs in this industry. Insurance carriers tend to be large establishments, often employing 250 or more workers, whereas agencies and brokerages tend to be much smaller, frequently employing fewer than 20 workers (chart 1).

Insurance

So between the healthcare industry and the insurance industry we have somewhere around 16 million jobs give or take. Given this statistic and given the proposed reforms by the Obama Administration, how then is this going to help in these industries as far as jobs go? If anyone here thinks that having the Govt. in the insurance business as a direct competetor to other insurance providers and at the same time also writing the regulations will promote competetion then your sadly mistaken. While I do think the new healthcare plans from the Democrats will be a wonderful thing for the nations largest employer.. The Federal Govt. it will devestate private industry, and at what cost? Several Trillion dollars to cover less than 50% of the uninsured out there according to the CBO. There are many good proposals for the healthcare industry that do not include Govt. intrusion and it's time this nation went about the business of finding real soultions rather than trying to appease their party's base at the expense of a nation.
