Harvard Loses to Inmates in Debates

Only logical way I can think how this happened is these inmates had a professional career before incarceration. Like lawyer ( which I put one myself for embezzlement) teachers, professor, engineers, police officer or even doctors etc.. That had knowledge or have time to study the subject before the debate.

Do you have any information with linkage that proves your speculation?

The inmates were older, wiser, and had nothing to do but practice for the debate. Also, they had a better side of the argument.

It would have been better to make the Harvard team take the opposite side. Then they'd have to think outside the liberal box they're stuck in.

But then again, it is quite likely that the Harvard members of this Wuss generation could not have successfully debated for the correct side of the question anyway. They probably thought that they had a sure win.
That was my thought as well. Harvard students puffed up with pride are routed by humble inmates with more life experience. Makes sense to me.

You're making the claim that an undergraduate is supposed to be more intelligent than a prison inmate? Why?

Harvard is supposed to be the best of the best, World Champion debate masters. Them getting beaten by a prison team is like a walk in beating the international chess champion in a best of eleven match.

This victory clearly proves that our colleges are no longer interested in the best of the best any more, only those who are will to let their minds be molded by atheists, socialists and hedonists without complaint.

Such things are a bad sign for a nation when its supposedly best and brightest gets beat in a debate by a bunch of amateurs without competitive experience.

But I guess you cant understand that since it is something negative about America under Obamy. Had it happened while Bush was Presdient, of course, you would be saying that was his fault too, lol.

The best of the best of what? The best of the best of undergraduates in this case. Is an undergraduate better than someone who is streetwise? Also this is debating. Undergraduates are not studying debating degrees, they're studying something else. Whereas inmates have all the time in the world. Their preparation time was probably much longer than the undergraduates.

It doesn't clearly prove anything.

If Harvard are the best UNDERGRADUATE debate team in the world (mainly because, quite frankly, most universities in the world don't do debating teams, like winning the Baseball "world" series) then this doesn't mean anything when they debate people outside of the undergraduate label.

No, I can't understand your argument, because it's like saying that the best tasting apple is rubbish because there's a chocolate cake that tastes better than the best apple.

As for your pathetic attempt at somehow making this a republicans verses democrats slap down argument, I don't support the republicans or democrats, I've never voted for either.... so.... stick that up your.....

Amazing how you read politics into the OP. Nobody else saw it that way. I guess you're just more sagacious than the rest of us.

Oh so jails are flooded with fucking capable citizens?!

LEGALIZE IT MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!
Go ahead. Then the criminals will just create another illegal market. You treat drug possession and dealing like guns.
Yeah, libtards don't get it, that passing a law doesn't magically change human behavior. Lawshould mold human behavior, not unnaturally censor it.

Lol the prisoners had no internet access and they had to get all their resources through the prisonsecurity system which took WEEKS per item.

Yeah, the prisoners clearly had the advantage on the poor ole Harvard children, lololol. /sarc

It proves a lot of things, including that you are too stupid to see the significance of this, lol.

Um, no, its not like that at all. It is more like taking a few prisoners and winning an engineering competition for best bridge design. They are doing exactly the same thing in both cases, only one is made up of criminals and the other made up of our supposedly elite schools best.

This thread is a cornucopia of libtard condescension and stupidity.

There are as many libtards among the GOP elites as there are among the Democratic Party elites. That is why the rank and file of the GOP, who disagree with Marxism, are in open revolt against their own parties leadership.

Enjoy you beat down, dumbass.

Harvard's prestigious debate team loses to NY inmates

"It took place at the Eastern New York Correctional Facility, a maximum-security prison in Napanoch. The Ivy League undergrads were invited last month to debate the inmates who take in-prison courses taught by Bard College faculty.

"Harvard's team won the national title this year and the world championship in 2014.

"But the inmates are building a reputation, too. The club has notched victories against teams from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the University of Vermont.

"Against Harvard, the inmates were tasked with defending the position that public schools should be allowed to turn away students whose parents came to the U.S. illegally. Harvard's team responded, but a panel of neutral judges declared the inmates victorious."

All the PC Nazi promotions based on what group you are in and dismissing 'insensitive' people has left our elite universities no longer filled with our best and brightest any more, and this is reflected in our national leadership as well.

You're making the claim that an undergraduate is supposed to be more intelligent than a prison inmate? Why?

You seriously see no more qualifier to this story than 'prisoners smarter than college boys'?

Yeah, I finally figured out how this happened. It wasn't just the Harvard teams low expectations of their opponents but the fact that the prisoners came up with ORIGINAL ARGUMENTS.

The Harvard team was essentially ambushed by a well trained group of people who did not have the disadvantage of working entirely within the college echo chamber of assumptions and axioms. The prisoners did not subscribe to the college metagame for the debate, and that can be a huge advantage.

I didn't write it.

I can see plenty of possibilities. I'm not going to assume something is the case before I know what the reality is.

If they went to one of those minimum security prisons were they send SEC violators, accountants, and lawyers then the Harvard kids didn't have a chance.

It's like talking to a child.

As for your link on wikipedia, it doesn't say how many universities actually participate, or how seriously they take this. It's just wikipedia.

seems like a bit of a set up since the school should actually contact the authorities and have the parents arrested.

so turning away students is just a softball subject, since saying the schools should take the kids in would be illegal.

Can you try to convey your thoughts again? None of that made any sense to me. I was talking about how a team of prisoners embarrassed the top debate teams of the world, and that demonstrates that we are no longer taking the best of the best for college students any more.

What you responded with seems completely unrelated to my post.
I was talking about the subject of the debate.

the inmates were given the legal and logical side of the situation and the students the other side.

proving the school should follow the law is a lot easier than proving they should break the law.

but the assumption that inmates are ignorant is ignorance on your part, I can assure you the inmates on that team are very good at solving problems or running cons.

and it was adults v kids in their early 20's

But apparently you cant, since that was how you read my initial post.

Our colleges are not taking in the best of the best any more, and that a prison debate team can beat the world champion Harvard team says a lot about how well the prison team prepared, but ultimately it says a lot more about our colleges being inferior institutions.

No, the Harvard students were arguing the position that reflects the law. Public schools do not inquire into the immigration status of children who go to public school, or their parents. In California we tried to change that, but the Supreme Court struck it down.

Prop. 187 Found Unconstitutional by Federal Judge

No I don't have any link but I know there are lots of inmates that has professional career before they went to jail as I previously mentioned. Like one of my lawyer. They also have access to library and they have lots of time to study or pursue other interest.
