A complaint Friday alleged that Harvard University discriminates against Asian-American applicants by setting a higher bar for admissions than that faced by other groups.

The complaint, filed by a coalition of 64 organizations, says the university has set quotas to keep the numbers of Asian-American students significantly lower than the quality of their applications merits. It cites third-party academic research on the SAT exam showing that Asian-Americans have to score on average about 140 points higher than white students, 270 points higher than Hispanic students and 450 points higher than African-American students to equal their chances of gaining admission to Harvard. The exam is scored on a 2400-point scale.

The complaint was filed with the U.S. Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights.

“Many studies have indicated that Harvard University has been engaged in systemic and continuous discrimination against Asian-Americans during its very subjective ‘Holistic’ college admissions process,” the complaint alleges.

Reason for the "bias" is so many more Asians are applying for enrollment than other ethnicities. In order to have a diverse student body, and not all Asians say, different ethnicities are weighted differently in test scores used to determine admittence or not.

Without this kind of system, universities would be almost exclusively Asian.

The issue is morons who don't understand that there is no need to artificially inflate the percentage of blacks in Harvard, or anywhere else for that matter. 13% of the population is black, one would expect that 13% of Ivy league students are black, instead people want to lower the standards so that 25% of ivy league students are black. Thats ok, i think let them all be asian. It will cause other people to try harder. Id rather have my bridge built by smart Asian American engineers than a group of whites, blacks and hispanics that put up a product that will collapse. There are plenty of other collages and junior colleges to go to. people become very succesful without going to college at all, no, testing needs to be equal,
the best scores should be rewarded period. They worked for it. Punishing someones hard effort is one of the worst thing you can do to a person, why would you want to do that?

Yup - fact is on ALL standardized tests (IQ LSAT MCAT SAT ACT, even cop and fireman) whites and asians are at the top and blacks at the bottom. The fact that asians do so well proves the tests are NOT culturally biased.
