You are proving my point.

We've gotten lazy and fat and entitled. We don't want to work longer even though we should be.

Labor is so much easier now. That is why we are living longer. Our bodies aren't wearing out because of WORK. They are wearing out because of fatness and laziness.

We've let our prosperity make us fat and lazy. Americans used to "die with their boots on". Now it is all about "gimme gimme gimme and make that guy over there pay for it".

It's strange. The Right used to have a work ethic. At least there are some Republicans still around who do who know we need to work longer than our ancestors.

I dont know what work youve done but in the construction business not much has gotten easier and what has has only multiplied,, and that goes for a large part of the jobs that actually provide true goods and services to society,,

you still havent addressed that people are being kept alive longer with help from tech and pharma and our bodies are still wearing out just as fast as they have always been,,

Tax breaks for billionnaires is AOK. Whining about Trans, lets do it. But hold on for one second while we screw our voters over.

GOP faces internal battle over raising age for Social Security

If you think this is any that hasn't been done before, you'd be WRONG! As usual.

There aren't ditch diggers any more. It's all done by one man with a machine.

I had two brothers in the construction trade. Half of construction workers are drunk or drugged out of their minds. I would drive around town with my older brother and he would tell me which houses and apartments he would not dare live in because the workers were so out of it.

Every time I move into a new living space, the first thing I do is check the polarity of all the outlets. I have never failed to find at least one that is incorrectly wired. In the house I live in now, I found several, and the ceiling light fixture in the living room was wired such that the metal parts which are supposed to be grounded were hot!

I also had to rewire a GFCI in my daughter's room.

I'd say the only job which is still as tough as the days of old is a concrete pourer. I have a friend who is one and his hands are as rough as the concrete he works with.

Nevertheless, life is way, way simpler and easier than it was in 1935. Every large construction project factored in how many men were going to die doing it.

That was a very cowardly piece of legislation. It was passed in something like 1982 and did not take full effect until 40 years later. The Congress critters all expected to be long dead by now and not suffer the wrath of the voters.

They increased the retirement age by just 2 years. Meanwhile our life expectancy has increased by twice that.

They solved nothing.

We need to raise the retirement age to 70 and index it to 9 percent of the population going forward.

just because we are living longer doesnt mean we can work longer,,

a lot of people are being kept alive by technology or pharmaceuticals but their bodies are worn out and can in no way keep working,,
What is your solution? As you know, the "RICH" don't have that much money.

When it began, Social Security kicked in two years after our average life expectancy. The selling point of the Democrats was that if someone outlived their expected age, they may outlive their retirement savings. Also, sixteen members supported each recipient. Today, it is down to two to one.

Had the Democrats planned with common sense instead of a long slide to Socialism, they'd have built in an automatic increase in the age of eligibility, like the cost of living increase.

It is just a matter of time before we have to raise the retirement age.

Americans are living longer than our ancestors, we should be working longer. Common sense.

A smaller and smaller percentage of Americans are supporting a larger and larger percentage of retirees.

When will people finally wake up? When life expectancy is 100 and we are spending a third of our lives on Social Security?

Only 5.4 percent of Americans were over 65 when SS was enacted. Today, almost 16 percent of Americans are over 65. That's more than the entire population of Canada.

Social Security eligibility should be indexed to 9 percent of the population.

Anyone not facing these realities is an entitled dipshit.
That’s ridiculous. Not everyone has an office job which is the only thing most seniors are suited for. Look around at the 60 year olds who do manual labor….effin fools.

beings its just a ponzi scheme we should slowly weed it out of existence and start teaching basic money handling and retirement savings in schools,,

if the states want to take it up thats their choice,,

the feds shouldnt be involved,,

People should be allowed to rest if there ready too at 65. Nothing says you cant work longer if you want too.

That's fine, so what is your solution? Were people in so much better health in 1935 at age 65?

U.S. life expectancy born in 1935 was just under 62 years
According to records from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. life expectancy for a person born in 1935 was just under 62 years. On average, girls were expected to live to 64 and boys to 60. A man born in 1935, on average, lived until he was 60, and a woman typically lived until she was 64.

The original age to claim Social Security payments was 651. However, a 1961 law allowed workers to begin claiming permanently reduced Social Security payments as early as age 621. Currently, the earliest a person can start receiving Social Security retirement benefits is at age 62. If you start receiving your Social Security retirement benefit at age 62, your benefits will be reduced by as much as 30% below what you would get if you waited to begin receiving benefits until your full retirement age.

You’re under the illusion that citizens of the US live longer than other industrialized countries foolish…we don’t.

The biggest reason people live longer, is the lowering of infant mortality…and extreme measures like cancer cures and transplants etc. IT Does not mean. THESE PEOPLE ARE HEALTHY ENOUGH TO CONTINUE WORKING

You're hilariously healthcare illiterate and the cure is simple. Raise the cap on SS to match the cost of living index so it happens automatically, and initiated Medicare for all. BOTH SAVES BILLIONS. Every country that has universal HC, pays less per person and their population lives longer.

We aren’t that great..
“The gap in life expectancy between the United States and peer countries has been decades in the making, with evidence of a possible problem appearing as long ago as the 1950s (Figure 2-1). 1 By 2016, life expectancy for U.S. females (81.1 years) was 3.3 years lower than the average in the 16 peer countries (84.4 years), and life expectancy for U.S. males (76.2 years) was 3.7 years lower than the peer average (79.9 years).”

None of my Democrat friends here have proposed a solution. Go figure!

If we had converted to a private system, as Galveston, Texas, and two adjoining counties did decades ago, we'd have much higher benefits, including death benefits, like life insurance policies.

We did but you have your head up your ass. Raise the cap on SS to automatically go up with the cost of living.
You’re singing the same bullshit you all did years ago when the cap was raised and the problem disappeared. The IRS can do it….it’s easy and fair bubba.

at some point we need to stop thinking about ourselves and think about our childrens future,,

and what is it you disagree with??
that our bodies are in better shape at 65 today than they were decades ago or the people living longer isnt due to tech and pharma??

You aren’t. You’re anti woman’s healthcare. You can‘t answer a question when you try to blame women.
Our future children includes girls and women. You want then brought up thinking the govt makes their decisions on healthcare.

The age is going to have to be adjusted. After decades of robbing the fund it’s broke…Next.
