Give 'em hell, Howard!

And that's why they're trying to rush it through. There are HUGE other problems that need to be seriously addressed, and health care is taking up too much time. But rushing it at this point, the way it exists, would be catastrophic and only compound the overall economic problems in my opinion. Obama made a major mistake by turning such a massive policy proposal over to Congress. (And by the way, I've also been saying that from Day One, for those of you who think I'm such an Obamamaniac.)

who should he have turned it over to?

He should have been monitoring what they were drafting and whether or not it was in compliance with his own outline of what he expected. It's tantamount to the Top Chef leaving the entire banquet in the hands of a squabbling bunch of cooks.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the President has no LEGAL or Constitutional Authority to tell Congress what to do or not to do. It requires legislative action and only the LEGISLATURE can create it and pass it.

Obama could have proposed what he wanted and got one of his faithful allies in the Senate and the House to take that and run with it. BUT he can not "oversee" the creation of a bill EVER.

His input would have to be private or public and in either case would just be recommendations. HE does not have any LEGISLATIVE authority or power.

I still support my initial position...if no joint bill is passed by the end of December, the concept is dead, at least until 2012.

The Czar of Government Expansion and Tax Increases

For the 100th time, this has NOTHING to do with "healthcare reform" Please people, please understand this.

Exactly. But that doesn't mean he should have just ignored the process as it was moving through the legislature. After all, that's Rahm Emanuel's job, and HE should have been reporting back to the president who should have instructed Pelosi, through Emanuel, to change course or at least not go whole hog. The first House bill was a public DISASTER and the whole thing lost momentum from that day forward.

"I know what I'm talking about. This is my life's work..."
Howard Dean

This is 15 minutes long, but well worth watching. We cannot pass a health care reform bill just to get one done.

Morning Joe

The American right is dumb as a box of rocks.

Every other industrialized nation in the world has national health insurance, and they pay HALF per capita what we pay for healthcare. National health insurance would be good for all of us. As usual the corporate greedheads are holding the country hostage. The greatest threat to American security are the Republicans in the U.S. Senate.

It is simple.

National health insurance works well. Having 150 different for profit insurance companies doesn't work well. That's why we pay TWICE as much per capita for healthcare as the rest of the industrialized world. That is also why our corporations can't compete with companies in other countries that don't have to pay for their employees healthcare.

not gonna happen, Comrade Stalin. sorry.

Does anyone else find it frightening that some Americans have no idea about the concept of the separation of powers in our government and why that is a fucking GOOD thing?

Scary shit, I tell ya.

amazingly i agree with dean....

i've always thought that if there is no public option or expansion of medicare, this is just a huge boon to insurance co's....this bill isn't going to change anything....if the dems pass it, i hope in 2010 that people come out and vote against them

me too. Not only will the insurance companies get a huge amount of money...but when our taxes are raised in 2 weeks to pay for this program that won't start until 2013 Obama will have conned America out of trillions to pay for his GRANTS to Wall Street bankers and States through the Stimulus pork barrel spending initiative.
