Germany shows us why Republican policies will ALWAYS "fail".

What matters to people is not the numbers of sollars , Marks, Yen, etc.

So merely comparing incomes is misleading

What matters to real people is how well they can live on their incomes.

I suspect that average middle class Germans are doing fairly well in comparison to the American middle class, right now.

Yes they are, things can be really expensive depending on where one is at, aisde from that the middleclass lives very well here and isn't getting slaughtered like in America.

The adjusted level of joblessness has now fallen to 2.92 million people, or 6.9 percent, the lowest for 20 years. The figures also show how Germany, Europe’s largest economy and one of the world’s leading export-driven economies, has fully recovered from the financial crisis of 2008, when almost 3.2 million people were registered as unemployed.

Figures from the labor agency showed that fewer companies were still working with short-time workers, especially the automobile industry, which has been lifted by growth in the Chinese market and the expansion there of the luxury car market as the middle class expands.

Remember, Germany had to absorb another "entire" country, East Germany, after the collapse of the USSR. They are also being counted on to bail out other European countries.

Germany has almost no natural resources, yet, they are a leading exporter and have the worlds 5h largest economy.

They live longer.

Take more vacations.

The middle class is buying "luxury" cars.

They work fewer hours.

Everyone is covered by health care.

More people are educated.

They are a democratic country.

They have fast rail.

They are are using renewable energy.

They have the most strict laws in Europe for clean air and clean water.

The rich and the middle class are much closer together.

Government is involved with every aspect of business.

Government, Universities and Business works together.

It was only a couple of years before I was born the US was rebuilding Germany. Now, Republicans won't even let us rebuild this country. You don't see companies "fleeing" Germany because their corporate tax is too high. You don't see the rich taking their money and leaving because they don't like the tax rate. You don't see them slashing funding for education.

GOP Plans for America:

Slash education.

End Social Security.

End Medicare.

No infrastructure improvements.

End Romneycare.

Tax cuts for billionaires.

Subsidies for corporations.

If the Republican Plan is to turn us into a third world country, it's working. On the news, it was mentioned that at the Conservative Women's Convention in Kansas last week, 60% said they didn't believe in evolution. I never met a German who didn't believe in evolution. What does that have to do with anything? It's part of science and education.

Move to Germany then. I'll pitch in for the airfare.
As long as it's a one way fare and his passport will be revoked I will pitch in.:clap2:

Republicans policies are destroying America.

Bush inherited a balanced budget, a strong economy, and a nation at peace.

Eight years later, he left us with a trillion dollar deficit, a shattered economy, and two useless wars.

We are still trying to recover.

explain California Chris.....and remember when Wilson left office (1999) this State had something like a 14 Billion dollar surplus....so going by your logic Grey Davis inherited a strong economy and a surplus.....what happened?....

Here there is a dog tax, TV tax, if you have a car with German plates you pay taxes for that, a 19% VAT which used to be 16% back in the 90s, Solidarity Tax, and for fuel most of price is composed of taxes, if gas costs 1.54 euro per liter you can bet you ass that at a minimum 80-90 cents of that is tax, there isn't one tax here that I know of that has been cut which proves that anyone who thinks conservatives in Germany changed the economy by cutting taxes is facking retarded as shat and knows not a damn thing about Germany.

your Facking Shating me......

The American middle class is "getting slaughtered?"

Does this mean they'll go back to Mexico?

I don't live in California. Don't know anything about it.

I live in Virginia.

In Virginia a Republican governor got in and cut taxes which created a billion dollar deficit.

Then Mark Warner became governor and raised taxes and created a surplus. Fiscal responsibility.

The people liked him so much they made him a Senator.

The Republicans have distorted what conservative means/is to the point that it's no longer recognizable.

Funny how they think that they and the conservatives in Germany have something in common.

Republicans really crack me up!

The german CDU has little in common with Republicans... and Democrats

- The CDU/CSU supports the current Germany stance on abortion: banned by the Constitution but decriminalized in the first 12 weeks upon condition of mandatory counseling sessions during a waiting period. German conservatives oppose late-term abortion, which are very rare and performed only if severe disabilities are diagnosed.

- The CDU/CSU opposes government funding of research involving human embryos.

- The CDU/CSU opposes gay marriage.

- The CDU/CSU says that multiculturalism (parallel societies living side by side) has failed.

- The CDU/CSU passed a constitutional amendment in 2009 requiring a federal balanced budget from 2016.

- On the economy, Germany has cut the corporate tax rate from 59% in the 1990s to the current flat 28%, with a federal rate of 15% (down from 25% in 2008). Besides deregulation of labour laws and the largest cut on Welfare since war (Agenda 2010).

Thanks to those reforms, collective bargaining in the private sector has become more flexible and independent from national rules. Leading to wage restraint.

- Taxes on consumption and labour remain the same or higher (3-point VAT hike). German fiscal policies are not progressive. Both in Germany and the European Union, consumption taxes are the main source of revenue.

- Until 2009 Germany had no capital gains tax. The current rate is 25% but the tax base is limited.

- They introduced "minijobs": partial time, low wage jobs mainly for young people and women. There are 7 million minijobs in Germany.

- Unions are culturally very different from other european countries: cooperation vs confrontation. Germans have just 1 union for each economic sector; in Southern Europe is typical to have 2, 3 even 4 or 5 large unions, each one with different banners and political agenda. Employers in Italy usually have to reach separate agreements with unions because of a small radical left-wing minority opposing any flexibility, which leads to high levels of conflictivity. German unions are professional and self-financed. General/political strikes are not allowed in Germany.

- Investing in education, research and infrastructure is much smarter than investing in the military. That being said, the US higher education system is clearly superior.

- Health care works well, even if costs are out of control (11% of german GDP). Talking about Welfare, you must take into account demographics: Germany has a stable population; while the US population grows by 3 million per year (248 million in 1990; 314 million in 2012). Germany actually criminalizes non-EU illegal immigration, and uses a limited form of ius soli.

- The 10% wealthiest households in Germany pay 31% of all taxes vs. a 45% share payed by the wealthiest in USA (OECD data). Even the ratio of taxes paid by the US wealthy to their share of market is higher: 1.35 vs 1.07

The Tax Foundation - No Country Leans on Upper-Income Households as Much as U.S.

Not because the german wealthy pay lower tax rates but because the german tax base is wider (100% of population pay the VAT).

- Monetary policies are dramatically different. German conservatives radically oppose having a central bank that directly purchases government debt. They believe that the central bank main role is price stability, not stimulating the economy. If capitalism is primarily about saving and investment, not credit and consumption (a society that consumes 100% of income would not be capitalist at all), Germany is one of the most capitalist nations.

Germans sticked to austerity, deleveraging and reform during the boom years of 2002-2006. And The Economist called them "the sick man of Europe".

Sorry guys. Germans actually support both Merkel and austerity

Angela Merkel's approval rate is still around 60%. As high as 64% three months ago, according to Stern magazine.

According to a recent poll, 55% of german voters support austerity and budget discipline over growth iniciatives funded by new credits (33%). Most voters of major parties support austerity, except left-wing Die Linke voters:

Majority of Germans Back Merkel

: Mehrheit der Deutschen stützt Merkels Sparkurs - Nachrichten Print - DIE WELT - WELT ONLINE

Another poll says austerity support climbs to 59%.

Losing in North Rhine is not very significant, since it's a SPD stronghold where conservatives have won only once in 50 years.

The german right coalition (CDU/CSU + FDP) is losing local elections because of domestic issues. For example, the enormous unpopularity of the current FDP national leadership.

By the way, the SPD is not ahead of CDU in national polls.

Most german voters also reject Eurobonds and the massive/direct purchase of government debt by the European Central Bank (including their own debt)

This is the version that most people outside Germany read:
Angela Merkel, Austerity Policies Dealt Blow In Local German Election
Voters in German state election reject government austerity policy

Please understand that Rdean is as damaged as a Batman villain. He had a bad breakup with reality and they are no longer speaking to each other. Whenever he posts I imagine him looking something like this

Again, it's a language issue, NON=american conservatism and Republicanism is nothing like that of conservatism and republicanism here in america. We can however look and see how the leftist ideology world wide has failed time and time again. It was american conservatism that made america great, Not the leftist statism that has plagued it in the last 60+ years like you see overseas "Greece, etc."

Also, if they have had a conservative in since 2011 and nothing has gotten any better, what then is obamas excuse being that he has been in since 2008?
Double standard much?

German conservatives oppose mass money printing and huge deficits to get out of a crisis. They passed a balanced budget constitutional amendment in 2009... when the german GDP was falling 5%. I don´t know how can anyone think they are on the left of the US democratic party
